i was just wondering how many undiscovered games you guys think are out there, like prototypes and released games that are extremely rare. i would think about over 25, but there could be more.

Totally unknown I would say less than 10. Proto's that where featured in magazines, on company report lists or demo'd but not scene afterward? I would guess around 20 are sitting in basements, boxes, floppys or on HDD's somewhere. The more time that passes the less likely these said games that are sitting wherever will be salvagable though.

I'd be interested to hear what the hardcore collectors vote on this poll. Wonder007, Mitch, Tempest, etc.

All I can say is that every time I think we've pretty much found or know of every prototype out there a completely new and unknown one pops up and surprises me (such as Racer).

It is hard to tell but I am sure there are more than 51....but, unfortunately, I do not think all of them will see the light of day.... :(

I'm inclined to agree with you. Some members in another thread recently strongly hinted that there were several protoype unfinished games they had but could not or would not say anything about them and/or confirm their existance even.

I'd say hundreds. Even if you count complete, playable games that weren't previewed anywhere, I'd still say hundreds. How many people would have had access to programming tools and the skill to finish a game?

Now if you count games that just are not in players' hands yet, even if they were previewed and even if they're not playable, and if you count multiple prototypes of the same game like excalilbur/dragonstomper, probably thousands.

I think hundreds is stretching it a bit. There may have been hundreds being worked on back in the day, but most of those probably don't exist anymore. I don't think 2600 homebrew was very common back in the day either, it would be a lot of work to reverse engineer.

Interesting question.

Perhaps there are still more than 50 undiscovered originals (including protos), but not a lot more.

I voted 50+.If you think of all the games from the numerous makers that were to come out,but were shelved because of the crash. :? :ponder:
