Cebus Capucinis #1 Posted December 1, 2009 I just got my 520ST in the mail from shopgoodwill.com! I have yet to test it but it's in beautiful condition and I'm assured it will work, but I wanted to ask: The system came CIB in a beautiful shape box complete with manuals and additional items. Included with the system were two printed design schematics for the 520ST. These are approx. the size of the system and printed on a glossy paper. I'm going to get them framed but I wanted to know: is this standard? Did Atari ship their ST computers with some cool little design schematics in the box or did I stumble across a nifty little piece of history? These things are really cool, so if they came standard I'm still perfectly happy with them, I'm just curious.

I bought one in 1986 and own several boxed systems and none came with schematics. How much was your 520ST?
Cebus Capucinis #3 Posted December 1, 2009 $40ish, I think I paid like $42.95 or something total. So I may have stumbled across something really cool? Awesome!
nathanallan #4 Posted December 1, 2009 Yeah, that's a pretty cool and rare find. Is there a copyright on them? Are they from Atari or someone else?? Any notation on it from maybe a printer or whomever produced them? PICS!!
Cebus Capucinis #5 Posted December 1, 2009 In the corner it's got "Atari (Japan) Corporation" and the address in Tokyo, then Size D., Drawing No C070112, Rev B, and signatures with 'drawn by, checked date, engineer, approved' etc... Used on 520ST, next assy CA070021... the second one says 'D C010112" and has signatures but the copy is pretty faded. I'll take some pictures here in a second! Cebus Capucinis #6 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Okay, so I have pictures that I posted in the gallery of the 2 sheets but here are the photos in the thread. There are 2 pages of schematics, I have taken whole-page shots and some close-ups of the detail. The hands are my wife, as these are rolled up and won't stay down unless held. First a link to just the gallery: Atari 520ST Design Schematics So I leave this to greater minds than my own, as I know nothing about electrical engineering or schematics or any of this: is this something super-special-unique-cool or is it just meh? I like it anyway but it's always fun to hear that it's one-of-a-kind! Edited December 1, 2009 by CebusCapucinis
Curt Vendel #7 Posted December 1, 2009 Might've been something sent to a users group, or maybe someone purchased them from Best Electronics to have with their ST, nice to have them with your new system :-) Curt
Cebus Capucinis #8 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) That's really cool! I never knew you could just get design schematics like that back in the day. Wouldn't this have been proprietary information and relatively guarded at the time? I mean, I could understand how they would be rather commonplace now (and this more than likely is a new reproduction of design documents) and how they could manage to get their way into a box like this, but I'd think they'd be pretty hard to get hold of in 1986. These babies are going up in a frame Edited December 1, 2009 by CebusCapucinis
nathanallan #9 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Frame away! What type of material is it printed on? Not regular paper..? Definitely a neat find, and most likely quite rare. Especially the big chip that says "glue" on it Edited December 1, 2009 by nathanallan
Cebus Capucinis #10 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) It's a semi-glossy paper that's slightly thicker than 20lb paper...maybe 24lb, but it's definitely not thin cardstock or anything. I'm partial to the 'Shifter' chip myself. Edited December 1, 2009 by CebusCapucinis
