The original DKC, Mario World 1 & 2, Mario All Stars, Super Adventure Island, all great games.

The list goes on and on though if you want more.. Castlevania 4, Demon's Crest (for more of an adventure platformer), the Magical Quest, etc. etc...

I agree with all of the above and can also tell you one thing that's wrong with many of the platformers on the snes platform- They're too damn zoomed in.

They must have thought that having the biggest sprites around was what players wanted so don't be surprised when you can't see more than five feet in ether direction around your character. Didn't anyone playtest these?

BTW- The snes games from Disney are actually surprisingly playable. Apparently the mouse has decent programmers and some quality control...

you mean Kirby super star game? that is one that really ticks me off with the zooming. i like the NES kirby. that one has small sprites and a good veiw of the map.

I haven't played that one yet.

I recall a period around when the snes was at its' height that game companies bragged about having the biggest sprites, particularly on the Neo-Geo. I have nothing against massive characters per say, but gameplay should always be a designer's first concern.

Addam's Family is a great non-linear platformer that people seem to forget about. I just discovered this one myself and it's a total keeper.

A few of the Looney Tunes platformers are good too. Rabbit Rampage and Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday are both good, though I haven't finished either one

Super Bonk is hard as hell to find, but if you can it's totally worth it.

Oh and Buster Busts Loose - the Tiny Toons game. Classic Konami stuff that shouldn't be missed whether you remember/like the show or not

Besides the ones already mentioned, Super Metroid, Lost Vikings, Flashback, Prince of Persia, and Out of This World all come to mind. Some of those are more towards the puzzle end of the spectrum, but they all involve running, jumping, and platforms.

I also recently enjoyed the Japan-only release Do-Re-Mi Fantasy, which was fan-translated to English not too long ago.

Dude, no way! There's a Miami Atari User's Group? I'm in Fort Lauderdale, but I work in Miami. What do we do... drinks at Barton G's, and then Joust tournaments in the lobby of the Congress on South Beach?
