My broken Neo Geo monitor - help!

Recommended Posts

Hi- hoping someone with some technical knowledge can help me out here... I have a Neo Geo upright that has monitor issues that recently cropped up. Basically, the picture is still up, but it's "pulling" off to one side - sorry, don't know quite how to describe.... For instance, I can't see what's on the left couple inches of the screen... instead of "player 1" I see "ayer 1" etc.

I guess it's not the tube, since the picture looks OK? What is the problem and does anyone have a recommendation for who to call in St. Louis area for in home repair? (I literally almost died getting that thing down the stairs to the basement!!!!)

I should also add that I may have messed up the monitor myself. When I got the machine the picture was dark and the colors weren't very distinct, so I got back there and cranked up the picture, which I understand is hard on the monitor.

Only one side is going? You don't see black on the opposite side? Did you try adjusting the vertical width pot? Failing that, sounds like you have a component going out of spec. Oft times, a cap kit *can* fix the problem. If you're not good at soldering and discharging picture tubes, I'd recommend you find someone in the biz that can help. I know a guy in St. Louis that does arcade repair, but I believe he only works on pinball machines. If you get in a real jam, I can ask him if he works on monitors and makes house calls (very slim chance though)...
