Is the Sega Genesis Gen Mobile as good as it looks?

My experience with devices like these is that they're cheaply made, thats just a hunch but that sucker doesnt look solid enough to be used with carts or carried around very much. I'm partial to the brick with a beautiful screen that is my nomad. I figure if you're gonna real get the nomad as as its collectible and fun, if not just emu it on your iphone or whatever. Kinda funny how tech changes, I remember when I got my nomad it was like "wow how incredible is this" and now its ho-hum.

I have one. It plays the games well that are built in and it also plays cartridges well. It has a cheap feel to the plastic and it is very light, but it works and it is very compact.

The GENMobile is garbage. How can you even LISTEN the sound it produces?! It's so off-key it'll make any Genesis purist puke on the spot, then run away. Don't waste your money on that wanna-be Genesis piece of crap. THERE ISN'T EVEN A TRACE OF ORIGINAL GENESIS PARTS IN THAT THING!!! It's a software emulator(and a REALLY bad one at that) running off a 32-bit ARM processor. DO NOT GIVE ATGAMES YOUR MONEY; STAY AWAY FROM THEIR HARDWARE!!!

I have to concur on the terrible sound rendering. After spending time with the unit, I've given my 'official' recommendation that most gamers (especially classic and/or Sega enthusiasts) avoid it.

I've been playing mine for a few weeks now and all I can say is, "Stick with the Nomad"... Yeah, yeah, it's bulky, sucks up batteries, bla bla bla, but IT'S AT LEAST REAL GENNY HARDWARE! It plays all the games, the Genmobile doesn't. Sound would make Yuzo Koshiro turn in his grave (if he wasn't still amongst the living), Has slowdown on games that it doesn't even make sense to have slowdown (Alien 3?!!? WTF! ), too small of a screen. It's ok to fart around with if you don't mind emulated games, with all things considered, REAL HARDWARE! I know that it has a few cool features, rechargeable battery, hooks to tv. My thought is if it's that big of a deal, hook up a Genny3. It's small and hooks to a tv and there aren't any of the above issues. My 2 cents.
