Hi, I recently did a project that unfortunatley forced me to destroy both my Genesis controllers, I bought a really cheap one to subsitute but it's just crappy. I want to get a set of 6 button controllers because I have a 32X and some games do better with them but I was curious if Saturn controllers work also.

No, they won't plug into the system. Different controller ports.

 

Try to find a *real* Sega six-button pad. You're probably going to have to sift through a lot of cheap wanna-be models and the newer versions packed with the Genesis 3 (Unfortunately, the quality on these were pretty bad compared to Sega's own from the early '90s).

Is there any cosmetic difference between them?

Yes, on the cheaper newer ones, the curvature is slightly different and the buttons are grey. The original Sega brand six button pads are all black.

Well, I went on ebay and all the 6 button controllers I saw, the top 3 buttons are a dark grey if the controller had the sega logo on it and wansn't a turbo controller

Yeah, those are the cheap ones. I would avoid them unless you need a pad asap.

 

I did find an official Sega pad though. It looks like it has a top row of grey buttons (my memory didn't serve me too well apparently). Search for eBay item number 400090444483.

One of the ones I have has three gray buttons and three black. The d pad has the same feel as the d pad on the second generation of Saturn controllers. It seems to be decent.

It sounds like you've probably got the right one then. Those are nice pads. The third-party ones.. not so much. If you're not sure, check that auction. Compare yours to the front of the box.

genesis systems are a dime a dozen over there, finding one with a six button controller shouldnt be difficult
