DaytonaUSA
I'm just getting back into the original Playstation again. My loves come and go in cycles and right now I'm obsessed with the little gray (well, for me, blue) box. I need some advice on some more games to buy. I'm into the early type games, as for some reason, I really like the blocky look that the earlier titles had. It's probably why I like the Saturn so much. To give you an idea, here are some titles I really love, and that I own thus far. Oh yea, I'm a huge fan of the long box games, and besides occassionally playing FFVII, I really don't like RPGs. Please leave them out in your suggestions. Thanks!: Bloody Roar 2 Tekken 2 (and 3, but I don't like it as much) WipEout (considering getting the 3rd as it looks almost identical to WipEout HD, which I love) Air Combat Ridge Racer FFVII FF Tactics Moto Racer Twisted Metal 2 Armored Core Need For Speed II Jumping Flash! Vip Ribbon Internal System CTR Gundam Assault 2 (meh..) Bushido Blade (big meh...) I love racing games. I'm a fan of GT, but I got rid of 2 as I honestly don't want to play it since I'm more into the new ones now. Fighters are good as well. These are just pretty much the games I grew up on. Armored Core, Tekken 2 and Twisted Metal 2 (in that order) were my first experiences with the Playstation, and I love them to pieces. My first Playstation experience was playing Armored Core in a KB store. I was blown away. I thought it was absolutely amazing.

shadow460
Castlevania SotN Colony Wars 1 C&C Red Alert Retaliation Defcon 5 FF8 Gran Turismo 1 Intelligent Qube ($$$) The Raiden Project (comes in a Saturn case with Saturn style instructions and back liner) wipEout XL Red Alert 1, FF7, and FF8 are best when played on the PC. Red Alert Retaliation has cut scenes that aren't found on any other C&C game, although they've been converted to work with Counterstrike and Aftermath on the PC. Counterstrike might be hard to get, though, so Retaliation is probably your best bet for those missions. Defcon 5 is quite intense on the PS1, especially when you man up the turrets. Action is slick and fast, and if you forget to bail out, enemy fighters will clobber you in short order. Dark Forces 1 is really good, too, but it makes me motion sick in a big hurry. Felony 11-79 is kind of a fore runner of Grand Theft Auto. It doesn't have some of the "bad" elements, and it actually earned a K-A rating! The crime list is limited to things like destruction of property, stealing gas, eluding police, reckless driving/speeding, and shoplifting. You don't actually ever steal a car in this game, either. littleman jack
I can't remember the title, but there is a great Crash Bandicoot kart-racing game.
Sgt.Pepper1983
Both of the Castlevania games for that system are awesome. If you like shooters Strikers 1945 is pretty good. Megaman 8 isn't as good as the rest of the original series is, but it's far from being a bad game.
Jess Ragan
Sorry, but I'm recommending Suikoden II anyway. Great game, even if you're not a fan of RPGs. I also think you'd enjoy Street Fighter EX + Alpha. It's got the solid gameplay of a Street Fighter game, coupled with that boxy late 1990s look you like so much. I actually think it looks more attractive than the soulless sequel that was released for the Playstation 2 a few years later. Rival Schools may also be worth a look... it doesn't play as well as Street Fighter EX but it's got a lot more personality. It's a whole lot of fun watching high school stereotypes beat the ever lovin' crap out of each other. There are even team attacks where you and your partner join forces to put the smackdown on a helpless opponent.

BydoEmpire
I was never the biggest Playstation fan, but the Resident Evil series was just awesome. I loved every one (of the traditional RE games, anyways). I dug a lot of the retro compilations - Konami's Arcade Classics, Midway's Atari Arcade Collections 1 & 2, MIdway's Arcade Party Pack, etc. N2O is a pretty cool shooter, that's one I can always go back to. Street Fighter Alpha 3 rocked purely because of the World Tour mode. The huge cast of characters and tight controls don't hurt, either. One of my favorite Street Fighter games of all time... maybe my favorite... R-Types is great.
Austin
I'm pretty partial to shmups, especially on the Playstation: R-Type Delta R-Types Raiden Project (Raiden 1 and Raiden 2) Thunderforce V RayStorm Ray Crisis Einhander Philosoma is all right (It comes in a snazzy big box). Strikers 1945 (This is really Strikers 1945 II) Hell, even Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein is pretty cool and unique (mega cheap, too). I know I've got to be missing some. Seeing a post above, btw, for the record, Quake 1 wasn't released for the PSX. Quake II was a pretty slick port, though, given the hardware constraints. Austin
N2O is a pretty cool shooter, that's one I can always go back to. This always another one I miss. Most-comparable to a moving Tempest. And the soundtrack is excellent, done by the Crystal Method. If you like that kind of stuff, you essentially get a good portion of their "Vegas" album in here, and all the tracks are CDA, so you can put it in any CD player. rpgfaker
Uh yeah popular question. If you like racing games I will highly recommend Colin McRae Rally and Colin McRae Rally 2 by Codemasters. Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation best of all the Tomb Raider games imho. Naturally the highly polished Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock and Silent Hill. Diablo given it's a western action/RPG with random dungeon generation (but you knew that) Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger Mark Hamill's greatest role since Star Wars and a great game Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere amazing oh, and one more vote for Castlevania Symphony of the Night Edited December 12, 2009 by rpgfaker
tz101
Like you, I am a great fan of racers. Jet Moto Series Ridge Racer Series Destruction Derby Metal Gear Solid Oh, and get a racing wheel and pedals for the true racing experience. These can be found at thrift stores for really cheap and are well worth it.
DaytonaUSA
Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming! I just got these games thanks to you all: Colony Wars Vengeance N20 SnoCross Warhawk Atari Collection 2 Jet moto 1 and 2 Pong The Next Level Wipeout 3 I'm trying to get: Cool Boarders 2 Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha N-Gen Racing looks really nice actually. But the youtube vids made it look very short and repetitive. Is it worth getting? Also, a lot of the games you guys are recommending are the ones I already have . But thanks though! jhd
My taste runs more towards RPGs, classic game compilations, and some obscure Japanese titles. While it has not been updated in a long time (since I migrated to the PS 2), I have some short reviews of the games I liked (and some I didn't).
