Mirage #2 Posted December 11, 2009 Well, even despite the OP's reasonable plea: "VERY IMPORTANT: Do not start any dumb flamewars here. Please. But a normal conversation about this, would be fun!", topics like that always turn into flamewars anyway. Even 20+ years after it matters.

Steve Well.. for what it is worth and what I have learned reading multiple threads here, there are things I would change about both of them but overall both machines have been really great and I like them both for different reasons. Like oranges are good but so are bananas. There are even things I like about Amiga, hard not to when there is so much Atari in it and there are things I don't like as well.. so what. Why not just own them all?

Steve It's your right to be sick of the thread. Luckily it's over in the A8 area so you don' tned to see it if you don't own an A8. The OP tried to create a duplicate thread over here bit it fizzled out.
brojamfootball #7 Posted December 12, 2009 These threads are so pointless. person1: You got your peanut butter on my chocolate! person2: You got your chocolate in my peanut butter! Folks should just understand that, hey, it's ALL delicious!

carmel_andrews #10 Posted December 15, 2009 would have been better if both companies merged...something like commtari or atarcomm or commotari or ataridore After all, if they combined their talent's and upped their marketing skills somewhat, they could have seen of Apple and become a decent competitor to the pee see and not a lightweight competitor like apple

(bumping the thread already on the ST forum would have made more sense though, maybe STE'86 didn't notice it was already there)
carmel_andrews #12 Posted December 19, 2009 I've Just thought of a nice Vs.. thread Atari ST vs Altair 8080 (the first S/B computer to run MS software/program)....interesting because, apparently M$ were in the running to supply the front end and o/s for The ST Atari ST vs Sinclair QL...As both systems were largely made from OTS parts/components And borrowing from the various 'on a breadboard' threads elsewhere Atari ST on a breadboard Atari ST vs a Breadboard
nathanallan #13 Posted December 19, 2009 Agreed with what was said, own them all. I'd love to have an Amiga computer, but they're few and far between. I have a few ST machines and I like them a lot, they're fun to tinker with and of the couple-few games I have it's a fun system. No use in bashing each other for something like that. Both fun machines (from what I read about the Amigas).
Mirage #14 Posted December 19, 2009 Exactly, that's what irritates me so much about those threads. They can and should be fun, but some people just get all rabid and inflamed about it. Ridiculous. Nathan, you should get an Amiga. They're really fun and not all that hard to find unless you want to go for one of the newer ones. But tons of fun can be had with a 1mb 500, which is the one I use, and they're not that expensive. Tons of fun games for that setup. Oh yeah EDIT: Or try the Amiga Forever package (or other Amiga emulation that you can get for free, AF just makes it a little easier). I like the idea of Atari ST vs a Breadboard.
