Mindfield #1 Posted October 27, 2002 Gotta love a girlfriend who'll help you thrift... We occasionally stop at a nearby Humane Society thrift shop to see if they ever get anything interesting. About the most interesting things they ever have there are really old PCs (386/486) and tangled box full of old joysticks -- mostly 9-Pin DIN types. However I talked to one of the guys there to see if he ever got any Atari stuff in. He said he did from time to time, but didn't have any. He did have a bunch of Nintendo stuff tho. In the end, we talked him into selling us the lot for $20. Well, my girlfriend went today (as I was working a nice long 13.5 hour day) to pick the stuff up. The guy raised the price to $30, claiming he didn't realize he had that much stuff (well, whatever. It's a charity, I can't really argue in good conscience) Anyway, in the end she brought home this box of stuff: SNES ------ 1x SNES deck (new style, no AC adapter, and my universal doesn't do 10v ... :-P) 2x controllers 1x Hudson Super Multitap 1x AV cable 1x RF adapter Combat Basketball Last Action Hero Star Trek: The Next Generation NES ----- Bionic Commando Elevator Action Friday the 13th Ghosts 'n Goblins Goal! Mario Bros. (Arcade Classics series) Mickey's Mousecapade Pinball Super Mario 3 The Hunt for Red October Zelda II: The Adventure of Link No idea of the rarity of any of these, except I know quite a few are dirt common. No Atari stuff still, unfortunately, though she said she thought she saw a Vader 2600 there. I'll have to investigate that...
Happy_Dude #2 Posted October 27, 2002 Good find Are the NES games boxed? I know i cant STAND lose NES carts. but the NES was my first console so im kind of a purist. Although the first games i played were on a 7800. All of my recent NES games were purchased as new from this toy shop that over-estimated the market. its really out of the way! Mindfield #3 Posted October 27, 2002 No, they're all loose unfortunately, but most came with those dust sleeves, and one came in a translucent plastic case (sort of like what you'd get from a rental place). The SNES games came with the plastic covers for the cart ends. I'm not really complaining, it was still a pretty good deal. I just gotta find an AC adapter for the SNES. Atari Master #4 Posted October 27, 2002 Bring your SNES to raido shack and see if they have the AC.
Happy_Dude #5 Posted October 27, 2002 If you have a NES its AC adapter should work on the SNES.
Mindfield #6 Posted October 27, 2002 No, either the NES AC adapter nor the universal one with 8 different heads will work. SNES's plug has a larger center piece than any of the adapter heads will accommodate, as well as having a small hole in the middle of the center post (don't know if that's actually used for anything). I know I can drop into Cash Converters and pick up a full SNES system for something like $30, but I'd like to see if I can find just an adapter if I can. CrazyImpmon #7 Posted October 27, 2002 Just take the SNES to Radio Shack. YOu know their mottoe: You've got question, we got blank looks. Anyway who knows, they may have leftover Archer brand or other generic SNES power supply for you. One Radio Shack near me had Game Genie for Gameboy (the original) with the clearance sale price of $40.
King Atari #8 Posted October 27, 2002 My Radio Shack has a bunch of different AC adaptors. Didn't see any for Atari, but I did get a brand new back-up for my NES.
Voch #9 Posted October 27, 2002 I had a good haul from a flea market in North Canton, Ohio on Saturday. The surprise: the non-labelled Parker Bros. game I found turned out to be Popeye (a good find for me...it wasn't Strawberry Shortcake or something). Also purchased: Chopper Command, Keystone Kapers, Ice Hockey, MASH, Riddle of the Sphinx, Skiing, and Slot Racers. Alas...no Adventure. Admittedly, I'm missing many commons from my humble collection. Voch
