Indie Games?

Recommended Posts

I just spent several days checking out the Indie games. I can post exact titles later, but here's what I bought:

Miner is a AWSOME game, for sure. Gotta agree about the praise of that one. :)

Shoot 1UP is also a unique and fun shooting game.

I'm a big fan of text adventure games, so I enjoyed 'Ephiney in Space' even if it was short.

I bought the office simulation game also, can't recall the exact name of that one.

I also purchased all of the RPG's that they had there.

The snowball fight game is also quite fun and unique. :)

Gotta like the prices. The most expensive games are only 400 points, and most are way cheaper.

Which ones, and which did you think were worth the $$?

Shoot 1UP is a most excellent shooter for only $1.

Admit it... You got it for the titular action. :rolling:

Anywho I saw my sun messing with the Avatar Drop of which if anyone had tried the similar flash game out on the net, it can make for a rather amusing Zoner.

I love Pixel, a very pretty dot-matrix style platformer in the Kirby style.

Also bought Shoot1up on general recommendation from this thread. Great game.

I must say, the vast majority of indie offerings look terrible. Of course I'm not expecting Mass Effect, but they don't even try to make them look presentable, like they've drawn the gfx in MS paint.

Soulcaster is worth it IMO. Reminds me of the old Apshai games but with a wierd twist. :)

Yes, Soulcaster was one of the games. Lot of fun and I like the strategy aspects of it.

I'll post the list of games that I bought later on.

Also, there's a 'indie game finder' program that allows you to search and look for games by a wide range of catagories.

I'll post some tips and advice for Miner if anyone is interested. :) I've gotten down below the ice layer at 200.

Yes. Is there any way to make the game less boring? I feel like the last surviving resident of an ant farm.

I just downloaded Dysnomia and like it so far. It's a top down shooter where you've got to look for pieces so you can get off the planet. The music for it is pretty good and I love the old school sound effects. I guess its' E.T. only no reeses pieces and no friendly aliens.

There's another game I think called Soul which is pretty good. Its really hard (for me) though. You have to guide this spirit\ghost through what seems to be a spooky hospital to its owners body. I cant remember the price but I thought it was pretty good.

Finally finished Miner the other day. Very fun game, one of the best indie games on there.

There IS a end to the game. As you dig deeper into the mine, you find more rarer minerals worth more money. There's also teleporters about every 200-300 down so you can quickly return to the surface. It still takes time to sink down deep into the mine, though.

Eleveators help, but they only self dig down to 1050. You can extend them below that point some, but it's a lot of work.

The last minute is a large blueish thing that looks like bat wings and sells for $250,000 each.

There also is a limit to how much you can upgrade a item. Eventuly you upgrade your pickaxe, drill, fuel tank, lantern, and self rising wench as high as they can go.

Down at 1450 you finally found a large diamond. Claim it and you get a fireworks screen and the options to either stay where you are, return to the surface, or start a brand new mine but keep all your items and money. Needless to say that makes the second mine MUCH easier. :)

Get an exorcist to remove the dark, black hole in your soul where the fun should be.

I'm going to have to grab some of these games you guys mention, especially Shoot 1UP.

The one that I have been hooked on is Decimation X.

Here's me playing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssJwJr9wNg8

Did you have to play it in the nude? How about a little warning next time? At first I thought I was seeing a special kind of space invader, but it soon became clear that I was seeing the reflection of man junk on the screen. :D

I've been playing some games using MAME that are kind of like Shoot 1UP.

Looks like Shoot 1UP might be just as fun.

Dungeon Adventure is a fun game allright. It reminds me of my college days in the early 90's when some people would always be in the computer labs playing those games. :)

I just downloaded Alawishus Pixel for 80 points and it's a nice little 8 bit graphic NES style platform puzzle game that's even got midi music. I like it.

I've really been enjoying Apple Jack which is also 80 points.

I check them out every so often. So far Decimation X is the only one I really keep coming back to, but for $1, I can stand a stinker here and there. I'll have to check out Miner Dig Deep...

Checked out some new indie games today, and my favs are:

Merchant Trader -- 240 points. The game is a more simple version of Patrician or Merchant Prince, along the same lines. You have a ship that you sail around the map, competing in some goal aganist either other human players (in MP) or aganist the AI. You explore the map, find items, battle aganist ships and monsters, buy and sell in ports, upgrade your ship, and do quests. There's three different map sizes and a number of different scenarios you can try. The map is very well done in the old style. Quite a fun game.

Business School -- 400 points. An impressive business simulation which has some similarties with The Aperenctice -- you pick one person of six to join their team and you have only so long to turn your business into a profit. You can also cheat but run a risk of getting caught, decide what to do to make your company earn more money, and can change teams. VERY impressive 3D models of the people, a lot of voice acting (including a very good tutorial), and music make this a REALLY high quality indie game, hence the high price. Quite worth it, though.
