This is what I would recommend, make a $2 offer on this one: Turmoil Cart

If you are really attached to the cart you have, try changing the position of the cart slightly in the Atari 2600. For example, push the cart all the way in, then pull the left corner up slightly. Try with the other side, etc.

You can get more aggressive with the cleaning of the contacts. Try using a pink eraser. If that doesn't work, I have salvaged a few new-starters by scrapping the contacts and adjacent silicone with a razor. (Word of warning, I know some people on this site will consider that an act of vandalism that should be punishable by law. However, my scraped carts have not had any problems).

If that doesn't work, refer to my first suggestion again.

im not very attached to it but i would like to get this one working.

i have looked on the pins and the black marks that the system makes when it reads a game cart is off center.

maybe i could try to fix that but its pretty hard to open a 2600 cart and im not sure if it would even be worth it.

Should i open it to see if anything is off center?

Unless the PCB board is loose, no, I wouldn't recommend opening it. The contact doesn't have to be dead center, and sometimes when it is not, the cart will work. That is why I recommend moving its position slightly when plugged in.

its like a whole pin is off center and not touching it at all.

but i have been trying to move the cart like you said and 2 time it came close to working. first the title kind of came up for a split second and the second time it was a whole bunch of brown lines.

but its still not working! :(

Sounds like it is close to working. Have you tried scraping the contacts as I suggested? Basically find a razor, or small sharp knife, or anything that will fit, even a small pair of scissors, and get the top film off the contacts. You don't need to push/scrap very hard. I also scrap the silicon around the contacts because sometimes it swells enough to keep the metal from contacting. Once you scrap, swab off the contacts again with alcohol.

Nevermind

I fixed it by playing around with the cart in the slot, somehow, now it works when i put it in all the time.

thanks for the help though!!!

Glad you got it fixed. In my experience, when Fox games don't respond to cleaning it is due to a dead chip in the cart. I've had several of them like that.

Good that u got it working... I never had a problem with Fox games. **knock on woodgrain**

but do you LIKE Turmoil? Of my Fox games I got which is almost all of them,

I like Turmoil maybe the very least.

I should play it again, to make sure. I just found the game to be... really flat or just somehow void.

I am the complete opposite. I have all the Fox games, and Turmoil is my favorite by far. I love the crazy fast paced shooting of this game. Add the vivid colors and sounds, and it is great fun.

I was surprised to see that some people really don't like it. I think it is a game that you either love or hate. Check out this review.

Turmoil is probably laying somewhere in my Top 10 Atari 2600 games. It is so addicting.

It brings a tear to my eye that Fox makes some of the worse games today... If only "The Simpsons" was around in the early 80's.

Just got through playing Turmoil and my opinion hasn't really changed.

VGC gave it an A. So I thought I was a lucky dude, and bought it 8/10 odd years ago. I assumed it would be like or as good as Beamrider or Tempest. Not even close.

After I played it first time, I felt it was the only time the VGC

had really overrated a game. I don't like those Fast Eddie looking graphics either "really ugly",

and the stuff you shoot??? What is it?? Doesn't seem very threatning.

Sounds in the game are 'irritating' to say the least...

Somebody make it stop! Ok bein dramatic now, but nah.. this game doesn't do it for me,

everything else is better.. except Froggo stuff. I think I prefer Laser Blast over this.

Even if I respect this game more. Just isn't fun to me.

AAAUUUUUGH! I can't get my Turmoil cart to work no matter what I do! So I set it aside. After reading this, I want to go beat my head against the wall with this cart again. :x

Crap, maybe I'll solder the cart permanently to my VCS to get it to work!
