Starcadefan
I haven't noticed any threads about old Sega commercials on this board, so I'll start one myself. Why do you guys think are some good Sega Genesis commercials(I'll accept Game Gear, Sega CD, and 32X because they had some good commercials)? I like any Sega Genesis, 32X, CD, and Game Gear commercial that bashed the competition. Anyone remember the commercial with the kids chained to NESes and being forced to play them forever until a Sega Genesis crashes through the ceiling and falls on a table with Altered Beast, and some other Sega games being played by the kids? How about the infamous Blast Processing commercial? By the way, could someone please tell me how that H.A.G(Humans against Genesis)commercial went. I've never seen it before. Witchfynde
Why do you guys think are some good Sega Genesis commercials(I'll accept Game Gear, Sega CD, and 32X because they had some good commercials)? Anything with the frenzied "Sega!" yell in it. Favorites include the Eternal Champions one where it had a cross between the Sega yell and a burp, as the tag line was that "Eternal Champions are gonna eat your fighting games for lunch" and when they released the first Power Ranger game, which it showed the female villian say "Sega!" at the end, but, being like any typical foreign-dubbed film, the lip-synching didn't match up (and probably on purpose too!). I like any Sega Genesis, 32X, CD, and Game Gear commercial that bashed the competition. Hee hee, yeah, no kidding... Anyone remember the commercial with the kids chained to NESes and being forced to play them forever until a Sega Genesis crashes through the ceiling and falls on a table with Altered Beast, and some other Sega games being played by the kids? Huh, missed that one, sounds like fun... By the way, could someone please tell me how that H.A.G(Humans against Genesis)commercial went. I've never seen it before. Hmm, did I see that one or not? It sounds vaguely familiar, now that I think about it... BTW, anyone wanting that great Sega yell, you can snag it at www.lunaticlounge.com under "Stupid Human Noises"...the one (obviously) labeled "Segasagasega", where they say it four times in about two seconds. *** (coupla minutes later) Oh crap, did they ditch it? Maybe one of Sega's lawyers told them to get rid of it...well, there's still some seriously funny things on that site, especially "Super Chicken". Damn... Starcadefan
I also remember a magazine ad for Eternal Champions and it took shots at Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat by saying things like "With 35 killer moves, any fighter from Eternal Champions could whip Guile's butt" and "Hey Johnny Cage, scared you'll get whipped by a girl?". The magazine ad also claimed "To prepare for Eternal Champions, use Steet Fighter 2 as your training wheels." Another good Sega commmercial was that one for Sega CD with the guy yelling at the kid "Hey! You still don't have a Sega CD? What are you waiting for, Nintendo to make one?." That was hilarious. Miles Tails Prower
My favorite Sega Genesis commercial ids definetley the kid chained to the Nes. My favorite Sega commerical of all time though is the one for Game Gear. A boy is playing his game boy, saying "Wheres the color"? He picks up a squirrel, bashes it against his head, and Mario turns into SOnic and he is playing GameGear. That one rocks!!!

I also agree that the Sega Saturn commercials weren't that good. The only Sega Saturn ads that I liked were the ones that bashed the Nintendo 64 and the Playstation. I thought that Theater ad for the Sega Saturn was just freaky with everyone's eyes replaced with the Sega Saturn logo.
sdstuff64
Anything with the frenzied "Sega!" yell in it... Yes!I will also agree with that. I thought it was cool when, for the later games, they added the Sega yell to the Dreamcast games. That was too cool.

I thought it was cool when, for the later games, they added the Sega yell to the Dreamcast games. That was too cool. Yeah, as some market analysts said that's when Sega started losing their audience and their identity, when they took away the yell and didn't do much more promoting of the Sega Saturn outside of the "buy 3, get 1 free game" deal (or was it 4, get 1 free?), which actually did pretty well. But once that died down, plus the Saturn was difficult to program for and never got an adapter for the Genesis fans helped bury that console fairly quick. Not that adding the yell too late for the DC killed it either, but at least Sega's still around, and even made a profit during a quarter in the last year (maybe two). Starcadefan
I wish Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft would bash each other nowadays with commercials and magazine ads like Sega would back in the old days. Would you guys like to see Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft bash each other like the old wars of Sega and Nintendo? Does anyone remember those hilarious Game Gear ads that bashed the Game Boy like the infamous ad that said "If you were colorblind and had an I.Q. of less than 12, than you wouldn't care what portable system you had. Then again, you wouldn't care if you drank out of a toilet." That was a hilarious ad.
Vic George 2K3
I know this is somewhat off-topic, but I somehow miss having the Earthworm Jim commercial being on the air with the grandmother telling a bedtime story about the character in question who slowly starts eating worms like they were French fries until she gets so hyper and has a whole mouth full of worms dangling out of her mouth! Yummy!

Yeah, I'm all for any ads from Nintendo about beating the crap out of a Bill Gates lookalike, or something...
liquid_sky
even tho it was a failure, i liked the ads that infered the genesis and 32x were "gettin it on"

Yeah, I'm all for any ads from Nintendo about beating the crap out of a Bill Gates lookalike, or something... Or Microsoft could make an ad where they make fun of Nintendo for losing part of Rare to Microsoft. I think we should all submit commercial ideas to Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo someday. Today's video game commercials don't have the same humor and in-your-face style of the video game commercials of yesteryear. The only ad that comes close is the Turok: Evolution commercial because it's got the same in-your-face style and a mix of live-action and video game footage like old video game ads do. Does anyone remember the old Sega 32X commercial that's shown in black and white and color where announcer says "For those who purchased something other than a Sega Genesis, our sincere condolences." as a poilceman, a woman, and some old guy take some video game system out of a cabinet and burn it. It ends with the old guy saying "Welcome to the next level." I'm not sure what the system is that got burned in the commercial , but I think it might be a 3DO. You can see the commercial herehttp://www.gaming-age.com/specials/adspecial2/Commercials/Genesis/segacd-32x.mpg You guys might be able to figure out what the system is that's getting burned://http://www.gaming-age.com/specials/... getting burned . Pie
The Microsoft "Life's short, play more" with the person flying into the coffin was pretty nifty.
AtariDude
I hadn't noticed that but you are correct that today's commercials don't seem to have that sense of humor that the older console commercials had. As for Sega commercials, I liked the ones that ended with "Sega!".
Gabriel
Call me a fuddy duddy, but I liked the early ones with the guy pretending to be an old lady and promoting macaroni art instead of the EVIL game of Sonic the Hedgehog. That commercial did its job. It caused me to eventually buy a Genesis.

I have one on one of my wrestling video tapes that has some guy dressed up as a woman saying that Sonic has a bad attitude and he runs too fast. The commercial does mention Nintendo when the guy says "Why can't Sonic be a nice guy like that little Mario."
