Tupin #1 Posted December 22, 2009 I somehow got an ST mouse with no roller ball. A standard PC one is too small, and it makes point and clicking a real problem. Anyone know where I can get a replacement roller ball or a new mouse?
The_Laird #2 Posted December 22, 2009 Where in the world are you? I have a broken ST mouse with a ball.
AllanHiggins #3 Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) If you want to replace the mouse, the ST mouse is electrically equivalent to what you would call a "bus mouse" in the PC world. ATI was a big manufacturer of bus mice. You might be able to find an old PC bus mouse easier than an ST mouse. I'm sure that the pin arrangements are published online somewhere. I have a paper copy somewhere here otherwise. Edited December 22, 2009 by AllanHiggins
Tupin #4 Posted December 23, 2009 Where in the world are you? I have a broken ST mouse with a ball. Missouri, USA. The only mouse from the same era that I have is what I believe is a serial mouse, but it doesn't work.
+DarkLord #5 Posted December 24, 2009 Check out Brad at Best Electronics: http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/ He's got an awesome ST mouse replacement. Note it *is* expensive though - something like $39.95 or so. I've bought a couple over the last few years. They are still going strong, and the click and feel are so much better than the original Atari ST mouse it's almost a crime. Here is the text description: TrueMouse, Replacement Mouse for the Atari STM1 Stock Mouse. Of the hundreds of replacement Atari mice on the market, The TrueMouse has been selected by Best as its Number One replacement Non Atari made Mouse because of the following Quality Features: Same over all physical size as the stock Atari STM1 mouse except a slightly lower and more comfortable profile with a back end of the mouse which is round in shape Not square with sharp corners!, Extra Wide Left and Wide Right mouse switch covers similar to the stock Atari mouse so it will fit all size hands and also has a tactical raised lip between the Left and Right switch covers, Extremely Positive Feeling Industrial Grade Micro / Mouse switches which are rated at a minimum of 1,000,000 operations per switch with only 120 grams operating force, Tracking resolution of 200 DPI, Opto Mechanical Encoder Design, 5 1/2 Foot mouse cord, 4 replaceable Teflon TM feet, FCC Class B Approved, and Atari ST! CB102079 $34.95 Looks like they have the original mouse too - but its even higher. Atari ST Stock Gray mouse. STM1 $49.95 Here is the link for both, under accessories: http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/accesori.htm
+CyranoJ #6 Posted January 8, 2010 I'm suprised nobody has mentioned this: PeST Not only will this "fix" your mouse problems, but it future proofs them as well. I've got an MS Optical mouse running via a USB adaptor connected up.
