blakespot #1 Posted December 22, 2009 I know it's not directly Atari related, but Jeff did so much good for Atari home computers and the Jag. I had to post it: http://toucharcade.com/2009/12/22/legendary-indie-developer-jeff-minter-finds-the-iphone I can't wait to see what he's got coming. blakespot
Austin #2 Posted December 23, 2009 This is great news! His Time Pilot look-a-like seems to be shaping up really well--It looks fun, has large objects, and Minter's trademark explosion effects. Looking forward to it!

DaytonaUSA #4 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) .....and makes the most boring, generic looking shooter ever! I'm sorry, but wasn't it just a couple years ago where he said he'd never develop on a portable because he needed a big screen for all his crazy effects? Maybe the poor sales of Space Giraffe or w/e that abysmal game was "changed" his mind. Nothing this guy has ever really been creative. It's either sequels to existing IPs or simply blatant copies and rip offs. Edited December 23, 2009 by DaytonaUSA

JamesD #6 Posted December 24, 2009 What is with the obsession with this guy? I couldn't believe how long the last thread on this guy went on. Now this. Who cares?
Lord Thag #7 Posted December 24, 2009 What is with the obsession with this guy? I couldn't believe how long the last thread on this guy went on. Now this. Who cares? He wrote several cult classic games back in the day, in addition to a couple of Jaguar games including the legendary Tempest 2000. He's about the only guy from the dawn of the video game era that's still programming arcade style games pretty much solo. In my experience, people tend to either love or hate his games. I personally (being a twitch junkie who likes vividly colored graphics) tend to really enjoy his stuff. Other people seem to feel the exact opposite. He's kind of a character too, which has made him a bit more noticeable than your average programmer. He has this weird obsession with sheep and lammas. In short, his stuff is controversial, hence all the discussion. The haters bash him, and the fans defend him. Gotta love teh flamewarz!

Kripto #9 Posted December 24, 2009 It'll be very interesting to see what he cooks up and how he prices his games. I predict compatibility only with iPhone 3GS and above!

+RandomPerson #12 Posted December 24, 2009 Great to hear he's developing games for the iPhone platform. ..Al Yep, I'm down to try out another Yak title for sure. For the most part the last couple titles he's done have not been my cup of tea but in the end the guy's name being attached to a game is enough for me to at least try every game he makes. carmel_andrews #13 Posted December 24, 2009 Perhaps while his coding his next iphone game he can 'phone a friend' (geddit) for some coding help ps...I don't think jeff is thinking of becoming a bill gates for iphone games, since as I was told, most apps and games are free anyway (or can be gotten for free if you know where to look)
Kripto #14 Posted December 24, 2009 Perhaps while his coding his next iphone game he can 'phone a friend' (geddit) for some coding help ps...I don't think jeff is thinking of becoming a bill gates for iphone games, since as I was told, most apps and games are free anyway (or can be gotten for free if you know where to look) The reason he's going to iPhone is because there's money to be made from QUALITY games. Revenue sharing is quite generous on Apple's part as well being that he will make seventy percent of all income from all sales on iPhone and Touch, not even taking into account possible sales on the upcoming tablet which is rumored to be compatible. Trust me.. a freakin first gen Touch could play it. Yeah, I had a look and you're totally right... That is a nice, smooth 2D engine (even if game play is too zoomed in for my taste, and it is a total ripoff of Time Pilot...). Damn it though, I was hoping for some 3D goodness. I agree about it being too zoomed in for a Time Pilot-style game. I'm sure some "3D goodness" will be coming down the road. ..Al
