tjb #1 Posted December 24, 2009 Having read about the differences between the Atari 8-bit computer and 5200 version of the game I was curious if the 2600 version has an ending. Is there a room with Montezuma? Does it just start over and get progressively harder? Has anyone mapped it out? tjb

The rest of the info you're looking is also out there. Sorry, I just don't have the energy to insert the links here. They are easy to find. tjb #3 Posted December 24, 2009 Duh. I've seen maps for the 8-bit and 5200 versions but never bothered to look for a 2600 version. Thanks, tjb
KevinMos3 #4 Posted December 24, 2009 I got quite familiar with this game when working on the Tomb Raider hack of it. It does have an end room, then the game goes to a harder level (there are 3 levels). Once you complete level 3, it just keeps repeating the 3rd level over and over for you to play for points. Fortunately, you keep earning lives every 10,000 points. Even though level 3 repeats, I don't think it's too boring. It's still better than many of the "endless games". Also, I made maps of the game here in my hack post. They aren't the original Montezuma maps, but the only differences are the enemy and item sprites on the map, and the level colors. For example: The Keys are now Scarlet Dragon tablets The stationary Snakes are now Grinding Spikes The Spiders are now Snakes The Torch is now a Flare But the skulls remained the same because I couldn't think of anything more fitting for TR. The first level has both an original color map and a new color map. I could do maps of levels 2 and 3 in original colors if people wanted it, but it sounds like there are other sources for these anyway.

I'll have to pick up a copy once the AA store reopens. tjb
KevinMos3 #6 Posted December 24, 2009 Cool! Thanks for the info. I'm afraid I missed your blog/hack. I'll have to pick up a copy once the AA store reopens. I'm afraid it's only a ROM for emulators at this point unless you have a cuttle cart or something similar. ...or you could burn an EPROM yourself or have someone else do it. However, if there is enough interest in a cart, maybe we could make it happen. Same goes for the Double Dragon Arcade hack.

It would still be cool to have an actual cart, however. tjb
7800Lover #8 Posted December 25, 2009 When are we going to solve the real mystery of Montezuma's Revenge? What I'm talking about are all those booby traps set up in the ancient locale. Why is it that all those traps still work perfectly after centuries of non-use and exposure to the elements?

Well they seemed to work in real life for Indiana Jones, why not in an imaginary video game world?
