Weird Boxing Glitch?

I was playing Activision Boxing today and for some reason even though I had it on a one player game the opponent could not hit me! I reset the game and same thing, I could beat the opponent to pieces and the opponent could move around but I couldn't be hit. Finally I cut the power off and flipped it back on and the game was normal again.

Has anyone else saw this occur??

News to me, and I've played that cart quite a bit, but I guess most of that playtime was 2 player.
