DaytonaUSA #1 Posted December 24, 2009 This controller came with my debug blue system that I bought a year or so ago. I don't ever remember seeing a glossy black (all black glossy unlike the PS2 controller) for sale in the states. Ever see this? Maybe it was made in low numbers or was made specifically for the debut kit. I'm not sure:
4Ks #2 Posted December 24, 2009 Hmmmm, maybe Sony produced a limited run of black non-analog controllers? Or it could be home made.
shadow460 #3 Posted December 25, 2009 That might be a Yaroze controller.
Rev. Rob #4 Posted December 25, 2009 That might be a Yaroze controller. A winner is you!
jeremysart #5 Posted December 25, 2009 Really? I have never seen one of those, it looks really nice! How rare? I'm surprised Sony didn't make black their mass run color, it looks so sleek! My wife recalls having a black PS1 controller several years back before we met. I asked if it had analog joysticks, and she confirmed that it did not. DaytonaUSA #6 Posted December 25, 2009 Hmmmm, maybe Sony produced a limited run of black non-analog controllers? Or it could be home made. It's not home made, you can definitely tell it's "Sony" if you know what I mean. It's solid, as is the shiny coat. It has an "H" next to where it says Sony controller or w/e. I'll look at it later to see what exactly it says to see if we can get any clues as to it's existence. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going nuts with not seeing it before. I seriously don't remember seeing a black non-analog ps one controller in all my years of collecting, so it's just an odd find and I really do treasure it. DaytonaUSA #7 Posted December 25, 2009 That might be a Yaroze controller. Thanks for the picture guys! I've never seen that before. Is that a special edition PS one or is it a debug console? Is it only Japanese, or is it American? I guess what I'm wondering is how did an American developer get their hands on this controller?
DaytonaUSA #8 Posted December 25, 2009 Ok, close but no cigar guys. I did a bit of research on that Yaroze debug console, and while it's a debug console, and it would make sense it was with a blue debug playstation, it is NOT matte black. It's shiny black with a white or silver (big) fleck in the paint every once in a while. It's glossier than a standard ps2 controller for instance. nathanallan #9 Posted December 25, 2009 I think I wanna get a monitor cable like that one pictured. There's no hope in finding a black debug PS1 around here
thebiggw #10 Posted December 25, 2009 Way back in the day I bought a black ps1 controller like that off the shelf at Meijer's at that time they had tons of them in stock along with other colors such as white standard gray and the black one I bought.....If I remember correctly there were other colors like blue or something. I'd assume its a pretty standard issue thing.

STICH666 #13 Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) It's not a Yaroze controller. I have 2 of these. They were released with certain games. I have a White one released with Final Fantasy 7 and 2 red ones released with what I've heard Resident Evil. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joW0uMDnlxw Edit: If you want I could see if Play-N-Trade has any of these colors in stock and pick some up for you. Rev. Rob #14 Posted December 25, 2009 Really? I have never seen one of those, it looks really nice! How rare? Pretty fuckin' rare. The Net Yaroze was a debugger/development that retailed for a short period of time in the US for about $800 circa 1997. They still go for between $300 and $600 these days. Sony even released some of the homebrew games made with the Net Yarzoe through demo discs and directly to owners of Net Yarzoes.

Wow that would be very nice of you. I'm a huge fan of no analog ps one controllers. I still think it's the best design out of all 4. If you find any non joystick colored ones Id buy them from you. Do you know what game came with the balck? I've never seen them before the debug

Somebody on Gamefaqs said Twisted Metal but that wouldn't make any sense.
kuifje76 #17 Posted December 26, 2009 Got the same, bought new in store original in the Netherlands. Unfortunately it was before I started collecting and chuched the box out. Only my plug was black.

STICH666 #19 Posted December 26, 2009 (edited) Heading out right now to see if they have any. Will keep you posted. P.S. That also goes for that JVC controller, Axe. Edited December 26, 2009 by STICH666

Video #21 Posted December 26, 2009 It's just a stock PSX controller. Sony rolled off all kinds of colors, black was one of them. I got several different colors myself, Green, Blue, and several blacks, though all that's packed away as I just use the PS2 for all my PSX needs. As for rarity. It came right as the Dual Shock's had just come out. I don't see any of the colors being common, as none were made very long. One thing I found odd, Sony released all the colored controllers, and then the Dualshocks were all grey? What givs? (I think later they started releasing colored DualShock controllers, but anyhow)
STICH666 #22 Posted December 26, 2009 They had nothing. That JVC controller was bought by someone who has a LaserActive so that's gone but every single non analog PS1 controller was gone.

STICH666 #24 Posted December 26, 2009 O_O How much did you pay!?!?!?!?
DaytonaUSA #25 Posted December 27, 2009 O_O How much did you pay!?!?!?!? 25 bucks. A bit pricey, but it was also cheap considering they go for over 50 on ebay and sell in no time flat. Also, now I can use the analog controller (or flight stick basically) control scheme without spending 80 on one of those controllers. Mechwarrior should be lots of fun. Also, Ive heard the bigger sticks are very comfortable for fighters, so I can't wait to get some play time here in the next couple days when I can find time to pry myself away from Wing Commander III. I ordered Wing Commander IV on ebay today, which has support for the analog controller, so I can't wait .
