+save2600 #3 Posted December 25, 2009 Yep, that's one of the best examples of a Wico stick. Just modified one to behave as an Atari 7800 controller

+Ransom #10 Posted December 25, 2009 The most important thing to me about the Wico sticks isn't visible from the outside. It's that they're made just like the joysticks used in arcade machines, so they're built to last. I've been using a Wico 'Bat" stick like the one pictured above for more than a quarter century, and it's still going strong!

I've got 3 of the command control ones and a bat style. They're all I use. All my CX-40's are sitting in a box along with dozens of other cheapo 3rd party knockoffs. I've been using a Wico 'Bat" stick like the one pictured above for more than a quarter century, and it's still going strong! I have two 5200 Wico sticks, and one is out of adjustment. By this, I mean that the on-screen avatar is never moved in the direction you push the stick, and the range of movement goes all the way to the right, but only part of the way to the left side of the screen. So, no, all Wico sticks are not built like tanks.

Bruce Tomlin #15 Posted December 26, 2009 The most important thing to me about the Wico sticks isn't visible from the outside. It's that they're made just like the joysticks used in arcade machines in the '80s, so they're built to last. I've been using a Wico 'Bat" stick like the one pictured above for more than a quarter century, and it's still going strong! The important thing is that they are made using leaf switches. Most modern "arcade" controls these days use microswitches because they don't require as much maintenance. Leaf switches give a much better feel than microswitches, since there is no resistance as you pass the point of contact.

Sorry, I thought "in the 80s" was assumed when talking about arcade machines around here.
