Whats a wico stick?

Recommended Posts

The picture doesn't do the size justice. It's a behemoth.

Now I know for a fact that you're a white guy! ;)

Non white guys don't use the word "behemoth?"

The most important thing to me about the Wico sticks isn't visible from the outside. It's that they're made just like the joysticks used in arcade machines, so they're built to last. I've been using a Wico 'Bat" stick like the one pictured above for more than a quarter century, and it's still going strong!

Yep, these are the best sticks IMO. I've got 3 of the command control ones and a bat style. They're all I use. All my CX-40's are sitting in a box along with dozens of other cheapo 3rd party knockoffs.

I have two 5200 Wico sticks, and one is out of adjustment. By this, I mean that the on-screen avatar is never moved in the direction you push the stick, and the range of movement goes all the way to the right, but only part of the way to the left side of the screen. So, no, all Wico sticks are not built like tanks.

That's because one of the pots is worn out inside of it. Not to much you can do about it since it's an analog stick.

The important thing is that they are made using leaf switches. Most modern "arcade" controls these days use microswitches because they don't require as much maintenance. Leaf switches give a much better feel than microswitches, since there is no resistance as you pass the point of contact.

Sorry, I thought "in the 80s" was assumed when talking about arcade machines around here. :)
