Video #2 Posted December 26, 2009 That's to bad, I love the 2600 games. WTF happened? I guess technology got up and left them behind

Koopa64 #4 Posted December 26, 2009 (edited) The end was hilarious! I'll hide what happens in this handy-dandy spoiler shield! The Nerd, angry with how bad the game is, reads over the back of cartridge that lists things one should not to do with the cartridge. He ends up doing everything it says, putting it in an oven, the freezer, in a sink with running water, pouring alcohol into the connector, smashing it and finally taking it apart. He then throws it in the fireplace, where it slowly burns... Edited December 26, 2009 by Koopa64
Rev. Rob #5 Posted December 27, 2009 The only thing I can think when watching that is, "Damn, that's a sweet fucking jacket!"
2600Lives #6 Posted December 27, 2009 True that, Bob, his Atari jacket it totally sweet. He said mostly that the other versions of the game are ok, but it's the NES version that blows (and he's right, it's VERY hard to play, and the controls suck ASS). I still miss the anger from the earlier vids, though. Now it seems he only truly gets pissed right at the end and does something horrible to the game. I loved how in his Top Gun review he got so mad he destroyed his tv with Hadoukens and Sonic Booms. This is probably something to do with GameTrailers, as they're likely asking him to tone it down. Too bad he couldn't make the vids without the help of outside sources.

doubleminor #8 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) I think he keeps the tone random in his videos so they won't get stale. He'll have some over-the-top vids, then he'll switch to tamer vids with just rambling. I like it because it keeps me guessing as to what he's going to do in the next video. As they go on, it's probably harder to top the previous one. Edited December 27, 2009 by doubleminor
Horst #9 Posted December 27, 2009 Loved this game as a kid on the 2600, Nes doesn't look nearly as good. As far as the 'hot dog aerials' I seem to remember when I was an avid skier around 1990 or so, moguls, jumps and aerials were referred to as "hot dogging". It wasn't the same as skiing is now, skis were LONG, VERY long and heavy, jumps and half pipes were not very common and if you could even attempt and land jumps you were "hot doggin' it"
Rev. Rob #10 Posted December 27, 2009 Why are people calling me "Bob"? Anyhow, I think the tone of the anger just went down because he's reviewing games that he didn't grow up playing. It's one thing to hate a game your whole life and the weekend it consumed because you picked it from the video rental store and hated it. It's entirely another thing to get angry over a shitty game that you're playing for the first time and you know it's shitty in the first place.
Shawn #11 Posted December 27, 2009 I think this just might be my new favorite AVGN video.
Emehr #12 Posted December 27, 2009 That was actually a pretty good video, production-wise. And the ending was great. Some of his videos can drag on and the "anger" part can get a bit too over the top (the Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle videos were torturous) but this one had some tight editing. The Castlevania videos were good, too.
Ze_ro #13 Posted December 27, 2009 I used to love Epyx's "Games" series on the C64... It's disappointing that Acclaim only managed to get four of the original eight events into this version, and four of the worst ones at that (Hell, dump that opening ceremonies animation and stick ski jump in there or something)... the four that are there are actually quite consistent with the C64 version. I could never figure out how to control the figure skater either, and hot dog aerials was always really unforgiving. Strange that they didn't do Summer Games instead, as I would think that would have more appeal to an American audience... maybe they felt there was too much competition with World Class Track Meet and Track & Field. Looks like Milton Bradley managed to do a better job with World Games, at least managing to get all eight events into it, though I haven't played it yet, so I don't know good it is. Also, if you're a huge nerd like me, you might notice that when he looks at the back of the cartridge at the end, that's NOT the back of Winter Games! Looks more like one of AGCI's releases, judging by the sticker and cartridge casing. --Zero
Jess Ragan #14 Posted December 27, 2009 I... actually enjoyed this. It's a Christmas miracle! Seriously, this game was long overdue for public ridicule. It was developed by Pony Canyon, responsible for some of the absolute worst games on the NES. I've been saying for years that Winter Games was inferior in direct comparison to its Atari 2600 counterpart, and I feel like this video has vindicated me.
