Congratulations to Missile Command for reaching the 1,000 minute club!!!

Here is a history of the 1,000 minute club members...

14. Galaga (Arcade) Week 30

Any other arcade titles close to reaching the 1000 minute mark?

I'm going to guess Sinistar, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man...

Pepper II is fairly close. I also expect Ms. Pac-man to make it later this year.

I've been setting new high scores on Galaga almost every day that I play recently. Today was 337,000 (although this is not my all-time high which is around 450K - just since I added the HiScore.DAT file to the MAME cab). Interesting that I haven't been using Twin Galaxies settings of extra ship at 20K, 70K and every 70K after. I've been playing extra ship 30K, 100K and 100K after. Guess we'll see what happens when I switch to their settings.

I'm thinkin' the ColecoVision gets some play time this week...

Turbo Grafx:

TV Sports Basketball - 72 minutes

Now that we've won the CWBA championship, I don't plan on playing this game again for a long time. The TV Sports series would have been much more enjoyable if they would have had an option to shorten the game. Four 12 minute quarters with the clock stopping takes over an hour to play and leads to ridiculous scores like tonight's final (180-168).

No work tomorrow (Monday) so a little extra playing time...

Intellivision:

Turbo - 12 minutes

I have mixed feelings on this game. On one hand I liked how the scenes change from city, to country, by the water, in the dark, over the ice but the controls are not very good, it's nearly impossible to squeeze between two cars that are slightly offset, and forget steering on the ice. Level 1 is way too easy and Level 4 was way too hard (thanks again to the controls). The ambulance is present but mostly annoying as it always pulls up and drives right beside me for awhile (usually until I hit an oil slick). I pictured the ambulance driver laughing and giving me the bird :) You would think the disc controller would work great with this game but I found it frustrating.

Popeye - 8 minutes

It's Popeye (yawn). I like the Atari version better. Both versions have pretty good graphics but the Atari has much better control.

Zaxxon - 15 minutes

This version is much better than the Atari version. I thought the controls worked well with this game also. I'm not the biggest Zaxxon fan but I could spend more time with this game.

Tropical Trouble - 18 minutes

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. A beach scene, jungle scene, volcano scene, and bridge scene. Most of the time you're avoiding or jumping (I found it easier to just avoid) items until you can pick up your damsel's handkerchief which usually makes you invincible long enough to run to the right edge of the screen and advance to the next scene. On the bridge scene, you can finally "save" her and then start all over on a more difficult island.

We continued our great start into the new year. 138 different titles played this week for a total of 3,685 minutes. At this point, if you're not sure if a game is eligible, go ahead and list it. Unless it becomes too much to track I'd rather have people feel included rather than excluded.

Here are the Week #2 Results...

1. Light Crusader (Sega Genesis) 360 minutes

2. Tower of Doom (Intellivision) 240

3. Kaboom! (Atari 2600) 185

4. Bedlam (CoCo) 180

5. Batsugun (Sega Saturn) 160

6. Galaga (Arcade) 124

7. Virtua Fighter (Sega 32X) 90

8. Goldeneye (Nintendo 64) 73

9. TV Sports Basketball (Turbo Grafx) 72

10. Cobra Triangle (NES) 70

10. Missile Command (Atari 2600) 70

Ten different systems in the Top Ten this week is a first! The Atari 2600 does have two entries since Missile Command and Cobra Triangle tied for 10th giving us 11 titles in the Top Ten. Interestingly, the Sega Master System held the #12 spot and the Commodore 64 and Atari 5200 (among others) were part of a group tie for #13. There's a lot of life left in many systems!

Please make sure you spell your titles correctly (I'm not familiar with all of them) and try to list it the same way each time if possible. It really helps me out. Although I comb the database regularly for spelling mistakes and variations on the same game, being consistent on the front end really helps out. I've logged over 5,000 entries (in 65 weeks) so the database is really growing!

As always, comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Doh! I found a misspelled title in the database that affects this week's Top Ten. I had two different spellings for Battle Garegga. The actual Top Ten is...

Here are the Week #2 Results...

1. Light Crusader (Sega Genesis) 360 minutes

2. Tower of Doom (Intellivision) 240

3. Kaboom! (Atari 2600) 185

4. Bedlam (CoCo) 180

5. Batsugun (Sega Saturn) 160

6. Galaga (Arcade) 124

7. Virtua Fighter (Sega 32X) 90

7. Battle Garegga (Sega Saturn) 90

9. Goldeneye (Nintendo 64) 73

10. TV Sports Basketball (Turbo Grafx) 72

11. Cobra Triangle (NES) 70

11. Missile Command (Atari 2600) 70

I guess there were only 9 different systems in the Top Ten.
