+Ransom #5 Posted January 5, 2010 Actually, it appears that the 830 modem manual was part of the 850 Interface Module Operator's Manual, as Appendix 13 (pp 97 to 102). It has some basic descriptive text, the dimensions and operating environment requirements, a description of the controls and indicators on the unit, a description of what the pins on the connector do, how to install the modem, and how to do basic operations and basic troubleshooting. lbaeza #6 Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) Hi Ransom Yes, actually I just have the 830 modem and the 850 interface and I have no idea how to test this hardware... Directions on how to hook it up, basic operation and the like will be fine. The modem has some switches and lights but I have no idea what's the purpose of them. BTW, my 830 has some dirt on its 'ears', I'm tempted to open the modem to clean it up completely, but I still can't figure out the right way to open the unit. What amazes me is the fact that there are no visible screws or something like that! Anybody has opened one of these modems? Regards PS: I've found just one screw under the modem label, but it refuses to get out of the unit...maybe this is not a screw but an adjustable potentiometer or something like that... (Makes sense it was a combined manual, since you could only buy the 830 with the 850; both are pictured on the cover, BTW). lbaeza #9 Posted January 6, 2010 Thanks Ransom for sharing that information, I appreciate that. Today I gave it a try on disassembling the 830 modem, and I succeded! This is how I did it. First, I popped the right tab out only using my fingers. Then I could see inside the modem, and I noticed the speaker cables were disconnected! Then I popped out the rubber 'ears' carefully, using only the hands. Then I saw the internal PCB and realised it had no holders, no screws, just the bare board attached to the left tab. Then I popped the left tab, and then the PCB came out of the chassis. And that's it! With this I can clean my modem, and when I put the 'ears' again I'll connect them properly.
