+5-11under #1 Posted January 4, 2010 Hi there, My family really enjoys N64 games such as Bomberman, Bomberman Hero, and Donkey Kong 64. I'm lost in the 80's , so I'm wondering if any of you know of other good N64 games that are similar in genre? Thanks, 5-11under

Thanks! 5-11under "Conker's Bad Fur Day" is supposed to be a "Mario 64"/"Donkey Kong 64" type game for grown ups. You might want to give it a try. (EDIT: Oops,I read your post more carefully. CBFD might not be too appropriate if you're always playing with the entire family.) Edited January 4, 2010 by mbd30
+5-11under #6 Posted January 4, 2010 Mario Kart 64, and if your family has older kids, 007 Goldeneye I'm not sure if either of these games are in the same genre... and I'm not getting 007 for the family. We only shoot with coconuts, peanuts, and pixelated bombs. 5-11under

Thanks! 5-11under All three are perfect for your family and are very similar (in many ways) to DK 64. Heck, DK 64 is basically Mario 64 with a different theme and more puzzles. Banjo Kazooie is VERY similar to DK 64, and Kirby 64 is a side scroller (3D) but is one of the best family friendly platformers on the system, period. eggomania #8 Posted January 4, 2010 In addition to Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, you may be interested in Banjo's sequel Banjo-Tooie and even Paper Mario.
Koopa64 #9 Posted January 4, 2010 If you like racing games, Diddy Kong Racing is a good family game. It even has Conker and Banjo in it (don't worry, DKR came out a while before BFD was released, so Conker is still kid-friendly).
Video #10 Posted January 4, 2010 If you like Platformers, how about Yoshi? One of the few 2D games on the system. Conkers Bad Fur day is fun, but NOT for family entertainment (unless you enjoy traumatizing the kids and wife ) It's similar to DK or Mario, but hella hard in relation. Glover was kinda cool, you're a giant walking hand, and similar to DK/Mario in many ways. For Four playered games, if you're not opposed to fighters, Super Smas Brothers is great, four playered simult, and youcan even set up an all computer match if you wanted to. I have to disagree on Yoshi. I found it really annoying, but that's just me. Glover was a bit love hate with me. There was just something incomplete about the game, but it was an admirable effort for sure. And of course, yes, Smash is a great game that I wouldn't be opposed to my kids playing (if I had any). pinball22 #12 Posted January 5, 2010 I like Yoshi's Story (except for the earsplitting singing Yoshis) and it provides two levels of difficulty for good family play -- little kids can just go for any fruit, adults can try for melons only. I found Glover to be very frustrating -- it's like somehow the control isn't quite good enough for how difficult the game is. You might also want to pick up Chameleon Twist 1 and 2...they're reasonably fun once you get the hang of playing (though graphically a little lacking). Chris Leach #13 Posted January 5, 2010 I would definately pick up super smash bros for your family....
vdub_bobby #14 Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) Rayman 2: The Great Escape is also supposed to be a good platformer; I haven't played it. Edited January 5, 2010 by vdub_bobby
Tom-Lynx #15 Posted January 6, 2010 Rayman 2: The Great Escape is also supposed to be a good platformer; I haven't played it. It is indeed awesome. In our family, it is the N64 platformer that is 2nd only to Mario 64. It is also the best version of Rayman 2 published.
icemanxp300 #16 Posted January 6, 2010 Yea seriously Mario Kart 64 is like the best game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The family will love it (especially battle mode). I also highly recommmend F-zero in my opinion those are like the best racing games made. Other games you should play: Mario Party 1 2 3 A must for family fun!!!! Zelda ocarina of time. Austin #17 Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) I personally really enjoyed Glover. It's a 3D platformer in a similar vein as others, but it's much more linear overall. The ball concept takes a bit to get used to, but it's fun when you get the hang of it. There is also a big emphasis on collecting--ala oldschool 2D platformers--and there are more arcade/puzzle-style elements than some of the other 3D platformers on the system. I'm not going to say it out-does any of the first party titles, but it's super-cheap, so you can't really go wrong with it if you want to mix things up. Tr3vor #18 Posted January 7, 2010 yuk, dont get mario party, those games are half the reason the joysticks dont self-center anymore, cuz you have to put your palm on the joystick and spin it as fast as you can. it also hurts a bit (didnt nintendo sell a glove that helps you avoid getting blisters?) i have to go with mario 64, banjo kazooie, banjo tooie, and F-zero X (fzeroX is a racing game if thier into that) although this is nothing anybody else hasnt already said,
DaytonaUSA #19 Posted January 7, 2010 Yea, if they're into racing games, I honestly think that F-Zero X is quite possibly in the top 5 ever made.
Video #20 Posted January 7, 2010 Well, if they like raceing, there's also Beetle Adventure Racing, which I loved. The Xtreme G series, the two on the 64 were IMO the best ones. And for a more Mariokart game, there's Diddykong racing, which has planes as well!
BDW #21 Posted January 8, 2010 While this doesnt have much to do with DK64 or bomberman, BUY STARFOX 64! NOW! I played the game to death when I was younger. Hell, I still play it now! Different paths, multiple stages, many challenges, and a 4 player multiplayer!

Hatta #24 Posted January 8, 2010 It is also the best version of Rayman 2 published. Why is this? I have only played it on the Dreamcast, and loved it. What makes the N64 version better in your opinion?
Tom-Lynx #25 Posted January 9, 2010 It is also the best version of Rayman 2 published. Why is this? I have only played it on the Dreamcast, and loved it. What makes the N64 version better in your opinion? I like the N64 version for the instant loading (cartridge based advantage) and the why the graphics blur together for smooth textures. The Dreamcast has a slight higher resolution, but the N64 version was programmed really really well.
