2600Lives #26 Posted January 12, 2010 Well, since the stock 360 pad sucks, why not get one of the MadCatz Fighter pads? The ones made specifically for SF4? I have one and the pad is a HUGE improvement over the original. That alone would make it worth the purchase for the older games. I prefer a control pad over a joystick anyway. Atarifever #27 Posted January 12, 2010 Yeah, I'll need a joystick and other people in the arcade to challenge before I get excited. I didn't realize how important Joysticks were until I got KoF12. The 360 D-Pad is so incredibly bad it's just about half as bad as the Gamecube one. A worse insult to a D-Pad I cannot imagine. Other than actually being the Gamecube one. That'd be a bad insult. So there aren't other people in your arcade? I didn't read all the info, but if all it is is a silly avatar system, well, avatar systems are worse than the Gamecube D-pad. +HammR25 #28 Posted January 12, 2010 You could always order one of these as well. I have no idea what the quality is on the build though.
Lord Helmet #29 Posted January 12, 2010 The MadCatz stick was terrible if you were using it for its intended purpose. The trick is to get creative with it. The board is extremely handy for projects, with a common ground and huge copper pads. I was able to use the MadCatz stick to interface my Xbox 360 with a hacked Sega Saturn joypad, which was something that would have been exceedingly difficult or even impossible with other controllers. For that purpose, it was worth the price. That's good to know. I think I might pick one of these things up on ebay and hack it with a real arcade stick and some buttons I have lying around from my MAME cabinet project. Gabriel #30 Posted January 13, 2010 The only thing I can really say about it is that it's FINALLY a place to interact with avatars. Where is my avatar shooter? Give us a little cartoony forest and some nerf guns and let us shoot each other. I'd pay for that, just for the privledge of shooting my friends in their customized faces. MCHufnagel #31 Posted January 13, 2010 Well, I guess I'll be the one to rain on this parade. Ya, people will enjoy it for a month or two, but then they'll move on to the next bright and shiny feature. And the people who truely love these old games already have one or all of the compilation discs or have MAME on their pc.
+HammR25 #32 Posted January 13, 2010 I figured that was pretty obvious since it's impossible to find a game of Joust, Time Pilot....etc online.
ianoid #33 Posted January 15, 2010 The madcatz arcade stick from years back with the spinner is an utter hunk of crap. The D-pad on 360 controllers is the worst. I can barely make it through dash board functions withou an errant up or down midregistration. Seriously it couldn't be that hard to fix or make customizable? I have a bunch of arcade titles from before. Do I have to rebuy those? Presumably yes. Lame. Some collectors were afraid that official emulation releases would kill retro-collecting. I think they merely create more interest. Especially since controls are always a major gaffe. Why release Tempest in the first round? No spinner teh 5Ux0r
