Boy did I feel like an idiot yesterday...

Recommended Posts

Long story short: there is an arcade across the street from my apartment, easily in walking distance. I've lived here for a year and I've gone all over town looking for arcades (much to my disappointment).

This place is a LAN Gaming building, and I looked them up on the internet and it's 5.00 an hour to plan on the LAN. I clearly already have a computer so I never checked them out.

But last night my friends and I walk to the Daiquiri Shop (next to this LAN gaming place) and my girlfriend mentions, "Oh that place has Metal Slug 5. I nearly shit myself. I scoped it out quickly, and noticed MvC2, Street Fight 3: Third Strike (really excited about that!), Metal Slug 5, and about 5 other machines which I can't remember.

Oh well, guess I'll start hanging out there instead of the bowling alley arcade a few miles down the road (Although the bowling alley still has a good selection).

not to sound creepy (and this does sound creepy), but my last apt, back in Metarie, LA was more or less across the street from a daiquiri shop which was right next to a little lan gaming place.

I doubt it was the same place, since there was a pretty obvious arcade in town. Meaning apartments, daiquiri shops and lan centers must regularly hang out close together. and now I wonder if my lan shop had any arcade games in it...

What? But the sun might touch your skin! Better stay in your apartment and play emulated classic arcade games on your computer. As a bonus, you won't get cooties from icky girls. There is a slight chance that you'll turn into a mole man, but the glow from your computer monitor will give you super powers, so it's not all bad. :D

I had a situation like this once. Five or six years ago my local mall had a laser tag place which had been there a while but I never had any real interest in checking out. One day a friend of mine mentions that they have a small room in the back with a bunch of classic games. So I go back there and although I don't remember the titles, there were a bunch of good games. Within a week or two of me discovering this the place shuts down! Needless to say I was pissed!

Well.. when I first moved to Seattle, I was literally a few blocks away from "Hi-Score Arcade" which had a large bunch of Electromechanical Pinball machines as well as classic arcade games (Tempest, Space Invaders, Battlezone, Star Wars, Tapper and many others), and they hosted the Atari 2600 competition every year. (you can still see http://www.hiscorearcade.com/ on www.archive.org I believe)

Well, stupid me never knew about it until a couple of years later even though they were so close. and when I did find out about it, they were forced to close shop a couple of months later due to landlord issues. I'll never forgive myself for not hanging out there more often and earlier :P

Yet another excellent reason to stay with CRTs.

Well it's been a while since I first made the post and last night I went back and played some game with my friend. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Not Metal Slug 5, it's Metal Slug 6!!!! I'd never even played it before.

They also have a classic multicab. Now, if you'll allow me:

I LIVE ACROSS THE STREET FROM A FREAKING ROBOTRON/MISSILECOMMAND MACHINE!

Not to mention Asteroids, Super Breakout, Space Invaders, and plenty of other classics. No Berzerk or Frenzy, one of my few favorite games I've never played in an arcade.

Still, I'm walking over there now for a couple rounds of Robotron and Missile Command.

Well, to be honest, it was a little creepy. I live in Metairie, so you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. The little LAN gaming place is DIBs, and yes, it apparently has an awesome arcade inside. The LAN looked super nice as well, with somewhat reasonable LAN prices, though I don't really need to game at a LAN place.

yep, that's the same spot. Last May I left it for a place closer to new orleans proper. Someday I may have to go back for a few games of MS6 though--I haven't played it yet, or any of the other atomiswave games for that matter.

after checking, I guess the Fun Arcade farther down vets is closed now. It was news to me, but then I don't do arcades nearly as often as I could.

I moved here over a year ago and went to Fun Arcade about a month after moving to find it closed. I looked online and it closed a week before I was there :(

Gold Mine Saloon, in the quarter, has a great arcade with lots of classics (and only classics, no new machines).
