Old School Codes in Sonics Ultimate Genesis Col.?

Does anyone know if cheats work within the games that are part of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection? I've heard that they're supposed to, but I can't seem to get the Streets of Rage continue code to work. The one I'm using is: Extra continues

Press Left,Left,B,B,B,C,C,C, Start at the title screen

 

I also haven't been able to get this one to work either: Level and Lives Select

Go to the main menu. Hold down (A) + (B) + © + RIGHT on controller 2 while selecting Options on controller 1 (best if done with two people). You can now select how many lives you start with and which stage to start on

 

I was never very good at entering codes back in the day either, but gosh, I really thought I had done these ones correctly.

 

Can anyone perhaps shed some light on this?

The codes work. I'm not sure about the ones requiring multiple controllers. But the main thing is to make sure your controller configuration matches what you're trying to do.

 

I can think of two things that are conspiring against you. First is that nearly all the Genesis codes had to be entered quickly to work. Second is that the 360 D-Pad is a piece of shit, so anything requiring directional input is going to screw you.

Thanks for the information Gabriel. I've probably been just way too slow in entering the couple of codes I've tried. You're right about the D-Pad, but I've been using a Hori stick, so I'm hoping that if I simply speed up the input I'll be set. I just didn't want to keep trying if there was no way it was going to work!
