SOLD: Two CIB 7800 Alien Brigade NTSC "Reproductions"

Recommended Posts

I'm offering two Alien Brigade cartridges that were made as an experiment. Some time ago, I devised a method of opening 2600/7800 cartridges without damaging the labels; it involves drilling a hole in the back, detaching the screw post from the inside, and opening the cartridge without touching the screw, leaving the front label intact. I described the method at greater length in a post in this thread. I mentioned in my post that one application of this idea is installing NTSC ROMs into original PAL cartridges, which would be useful for games that are rarer in NTSC format or were only officially released in PAL format. 7800 Alien Brigade is one game in particular that seems to be much easier to find in PAL than in NTSC.

These two cartridges (see the pictures below) are the result of this process: they are original NIB copies of Alien Brigade, which have been sliced open very carefully and have had their original PAL ROMs replaced with NTSC ROMs. I tried replacing the back halves of the cartridge shells, but the new replacements I tried didn't match the tops quite right, so I kept the originals and used the PAL stickers to cover the drill holes (which I then filled from the inside with hot glue for reinforcement). The result is a set of cartridges that are in like-new condition and are very solid and durable. I classify them as "reproductions" very loosely, since after all, they are original Alien Brigade cartridges running the original software, albeit in a different format.

I modified three of these cartridges. One I kept for myself, and the other two I am offering here for anyone who wants to play Alien Brigade on a real 7800 without paying inflated eBay prices for it ($65 or more for a used loose cartridge). I am offering these for $40 each plus $5 shipping to anywhere in the continental USA; they will be shipped complete with their original boxes and paperwork. Thanks for looking!

EDIT: Both of these cartridges have now been sold. Thanks very much!
