Tr3vor #1 Posted January 14, 2010 i hate game missratings, or you know, stupid people rate the game higher than it should. i hate the fact that MGS portible ops for psp is rated M, and MGSPO+ is rated T. its the same game except the + version is excluding the story and the nonlinear gameplay. otherwise, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE AND BECAUSE OF THAT I CANT BUY THAT GAME!!! I know most of you (wait... maybe all of you) are over 17, or 18 or however the other countries handle that, but have you ever thought that a game was misrated? it probably hasnt pissed you off like this scince intellivision and atari and stuff didnt have ratings. Austin #2 Posted January 14, 2010 Give your money to an older friend and have then buy it for you, ha. And yes, like movies, many games are often times inappropriately rated.. has been happening ever since the systems have been put into effect.
Vic George 2K3 #3 Posted January 14, 2010 Things are getting more misrated as social depravity continues to set in even in our entertainment.
MagitekAngel #4 Posted January 14, 2010 As necessary as they are in our increasingly apathetic society, game ratings are no substitute for responsible parenting. As for me, I'm 22 and I still occasionally get carded when I buy M games (I also immediately get checked if I set foot in a sex store, or an LCBO). I suppose I should be thankful I look as young as I do!
godslabrat #5 Posted January 14, 2010 IIRC, the GBA version of Doom was rated lower than versions for other consoles. Apparently, portable games are supposed to be more "kid-friendly"? I'm trying to apply ESRB logic here, and failing.
Reaperman #6 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) for a long time I've thought the ESRB definition of "strong language" was a bit wrong. For example, while I agree that crazy taxi still belongs in the 'Teen' range, simply calling it "strong language" is a little misleading to somebody reading the box. I don't see that metal gear portable ops or the plus version is necessarily misrated if bits that were cut were rated higher than what wasn't. In a metal gear game, I'd think the story would be where it gets a lot of its rating. The way this is going it almost sounds like the game was altered specifically to drop its rating allowing minors more access to it. I'm not sure I like that idea so much--are there any plusses, or is it really just a 'minus' version? Edited January 14, 2010 by Reaperman

I'm not sure I like that idea so much--are there any plusses, or is it really just a 'minus' version? i know, but pretty much the only things that were somwhat bad was the use of the word "damn" i have multiple teen games that use damn. then there was this mind controlling dude, which defeinately had not caused the rating to be higher. and the "perfect soldier" guy. i dont care about the story, its mainly the fact that the nonlinear is gone and i cant re-equip gun that i have picked up in singleplayer, so i have to start out unarmed every time. i cant select whichever place on the map i want to mess around with, i cant bring snakes sleepydart gun. esrb says for portible ops: blood, I have not seen any blood in any gameplay of my cousin's copy suggestive themes, so what? the magazine is still in the + versions and the fags still "jack off" to them from what i see on the + version. violence, this is in the + version too. so all they did was remove the "animated blood" which was non-existant. its bs Edited January 14, 2010 by Tr3vor

I suppose I should be thankful I look as young as I do! I'm (almost) 40 yet Irecently had an especially dense Wal-Mart clerk attempt to check my ID before I bought an M-rated game there. I just laughed at his request and assured him that I am well past 18. As for mis-rated games, I was an adult before the system was implemented, so I have never really given it any thought.
