An easier way to beat "King Zing Sting" in "Diddy's Kong Quest"

I've been playing DKQ a lot lately, and I figured out a really cheap tactic for defeating this boss. Otherwise he's kind of tough. I haven't seen this strategy mentioned at Gamefaqs either.

 

After you turn into Squawks, DO NOT go into into the main area. Stay in that little section, be patient and fire away. You can hurt him, and he can't hurt you until turning red. When he turns red and comes at you, head to the left and move up and down if necessary in order to stay safe. You only need to get out of there and face him like a man (or parrot) after he changes into the smaller zingers.
