Mapping keystrokes to joypad in XP

Can anyone recommend a program to map keystrokes to a joypad? I am using Altirra as an emulator for the Atari 8 bits and can only use the cursor keys as controls. I just cannot get a joypad to work. I am running Win XP.

 

BTW Shamus rocks , been playing it for hours today using the keyboard. I had to stop when my arm went numb.

try xpadder, sounds like that is what you want

 

altirra does support joypads anyway

Without having tried the keymapping programs yet I can get the fire button working on my joypad in Altirra, but the d-pad is not functional. Are there any settings that can be changed to get it to work?

 

Otherwise I will try the two programs listed above.

I also recomend JoyToKey. It works great and is free. I I haven't tried x mapper only because it's not free.

JoyToKey really did the job. With the added bonus of working in Win7 also.

 

Now I can use controller to also minimise/maximise the screen, and use the select and start keys. Very cool.
