Finally got my 'Limited Edition' Xbox, but NOT happy

Recommended Posts

I preordered the COD MW2 Limited Edition Xbox from a local branch of 'Game' back in October, and paid a deposit for it. As it turned out I couldn't afford it on day of release (I did consider selling it on eBay for £100 profit but decided I wanted to keep it for myself) but was assured by Game staff that as I'd paid a deposit then they'd keep it for up to a year, which freed up some cash for Christmas.

Went back a couple of times to check on it and to add money to a Game gift card to put towards it. One guy even brought it out for me just before Christmas. Told him at the time that I'd be picking it up in January.

Went there yesterday and, guess what ... yep ... it had gone. Game head office had recalled all unsold MW2 limited edition sets. In the end, I was offered a Forza 3 Limited Edition (£20 cheaper) which is basically an Elite with a 250Gb hard disk. The game was swapped for a Limited Edition MW2 (with stupid 'collectable' figurine). Unfortunately I needed another 360 quickly for adding Multiplayer on an XBLIG I'm working on so accepted the package. However, I'm not sure if was such a good deal in hindsight.

I'm thinking about the money I could have made had I known they were likely to recall the units. Then what about the resale value? I have a Forza 3 set that looks like a standard Elite and doesn't have the game it was meant to ship with. A COD MW2 set is likely to have a higher resale value because of the unique case styling.

And then you have the breach of contract. They've tried to fix it by offering me the revised bundle but I'm not sure it goes far enough to compensate for these losses.

Not a happy camper. icon_mad.gif

Sorry to hear that. It definitely sucks. Unfortunately there is nothing surprising here. Just another story about GS not sticking to their word.

Did it come with two black wireless controllers?

I didn't even know they had a Forza 3 Elite bundle.

That really sucks man and I guess the C.o.D. Elite are now sold out everywhere?

I notice they have them on amazon, but only from sellers other than Amazon:

and there's a ton on eBay new, but in all cases at inflated prices (Similar to the Resident Evil Elites.)

When you say recalled do you mean recalled for a safety reason or just that existing stock was recalled? None of the auctions state the bundle was recalled is why I ask.

Apparently the units were recalled from the stores to the head office because they'd had a LOT of preorders that hadn't been paid for. I can understand the business need for that. If they remain unsold then the company stands to lose a lot of money so they obviously wanted to put them back on retail or through another channel to ensure that they got their money back while the systems are still 'current'. However, my problem is with the way they did it. Throughout, I received NO phone calls either to ask me what I wanted to do about the system or to warn me about what they were planning on doing.

That's the most irritating part. After all, the local Game branch is only small and this is hardly a densely populated area (you could fit the entire population of Anglesey into Manchester United's ground and still have room for 12000+ Liverpool supporters icon_wink.gif) and so mine was probably the last one of only a few preorders that this branch would have had - so how hard would it have been to pick up the phone?

The Forza 3 Limited Edition isn't really anything to get excited about. I don't think that any store even made it available for preorder. It's basically a black elite with a matching 250Gb hard disk and two controllers. So it's the same as the COD setup but strangely not ... if you see what I mean.

Those Resident Evil units look damned sexy but I don't think they were ever released in the UK.

Anyway, I've sent a message to Game customer services. I don't expect to have this unit replaced for a COD unit but I do expect some of the deficiencies corrected ... even if it's just a big mass of points on my 'Game' points card.

That certainly is a bunch of BS, all they had to do was a quick glance to verify yours was being paid for.

Maybe they are selling them on the secondary market for $100 more.

Some regions got the CoD console and/or a standard black Elite with 250GB HDD console.

That sucks. I was able to order one of these packages for $399.99 with free shipping just this morning.

Actually, not quite. It was another failing that I couldn't actually put more money towards the console after paying the initial deposit. I had to put it on a gift card, which wasn't even linked to the console. So although I was putting money towards it there was no record of that.

I've had no reply yet to my complaint. I am now considering taking it to the small claims court. I'll give them another 24 hours to respond.
