Arnauld has added the stick to the game.

After creating one of the most successful homebrew games for the Intellivision, Stonix, Arnauld Chevallier is at it again. Rick Dynamite is an action/adventure game which is much needed for the Intellivision.

This is been in the works for AWHILE!

Kinda wanted it, but now I dont think I am keeping my INTV collection no more.

I dont think I'll ever be able to find the few remaining games I need, or wanna pay the prices ppl want for them.icon_sad.gif

And It really does not get any play time for me, just sucking up about half of my spare bedroom.

But RD does look fun.

Bump! Any news on this project?

Nope, you can go to Beeslife.com to check periodically (like Rev and I do most days icon_mrgreen.gif ). David does post on here occasionally and said that they are working on a few games but with no specific time frame for release.

Well, I can tell you for sure, Rick Dangerous is making progress.

If y'all want more Intellivision homebrews, you could, you know, write some. ;-) So far, there's really only Arnauld and I writing games regularly for this and we do both have day jobs too.

Great news Joe, thanks for the update! Know that many of us REALLY appreciate what you and Arnauld do and we look forward to supporting your future INTV ventures. icon_thumbsup.gif

Hopefully some talented programmers will be inspired to create games for the INTV once your cart design is in production. icon_smile.gif

And David, I didn't mean to leave you out. You've been instrumental to releases from both Arnauld and I.

Learn! ;).

... and don't say "I can't"! The tools that are available now for the Intellivision make it easier than ever. I'm not going to get to the Intellivision myself for a while, but from what little I've seen of the sdk1600 project, I'm very impressed.

From what little I know of the Intellivision homebrew scene I think your only option is assembly language at the moment.

If you don't know any computer languages then BASIC is a good place to start but you might want to cut your teeth on some simple games for the PC first. Writing games for constrained systems like the INTV, 2600, 7800 etc. is an art form in itself.

Yes, if you're totally new to programming, BASIC is a good place to start. You'll need to find a good tutorial that walks you through using the language, but that also teaches you how to think about programming in ways that you can apply to other languages (like assembly language) when you're ready. One that I like is You Should Learn to Program by Chris Crawford; the link takes you to a complete HTML version of the book on Crawford's web site. Its use of BASIC is general enough that you can follow along with just about any computer and any version of BASIC that you want.

Since the book is 22 years old, it relies on line-numbered BASIC, so if you'll be programming on the PC, you'll want to find a contemporary version of BASIC to use (such as GW-BASIC). It's old, but it's still a good learning tool, and you can find it for free with a little searching.

*blush* Thanks. :-) That reminds me, I need to update that website. There's lots of new goodies in the version of the SDK that comes with jzIntv. Hell, I need to get the latest jzIntv out there. So much to do....

FWIW, I hang out on the INTVPROG mailing list on Yahoo Groups. I'm always glad to answer programming questions. Arnauld also pops in from time to time too. Activity goes in bursts. Everyone's friendly.

There's also a Wiki (IntelliWiki) with tons of programming details, although it seems to be down at the moment. I'm not sure why, and I haven't been able to get ahold of the guy who owns the site. Hopefully we can get that back in action soon. It's another useful resource. I've written a number of tutorials on assembly programming there.

As far as BASIC goes, I think it'd be cool if someone did something like bAtari BASIC for the Intellivision. I don't really have the time to pursue such an endeavor, but it could open programming up to a wider audience. If one of you (or even bAtari!) wants to give it a whirl, I'd be happy to provide support.
