A2600 #1 Posted January 29, 2010 How do you guys play your games in the console or in the super game boy or gamecube gameboy player? Is is worth it to collect gameboy Games?
BDW #2 Posted January 29, 2010 Of course it is worth it. You can find a huge amount of great titles for under $5 nowadays.
StanJr #3 Posted January 29, 2010 yeah, Gameboy is the way to go right now. Plenty of great games out there nobody wants because the DS is so huge. The Gameboy has a lot of great titles. I play most of my Gameboy games on my SP these days, but I'll break out the GB Color from time to time.
Devbinks #4 Posted January 29, 2010 Yeah, go for it! I actually just pulled my original GameBoy out of storage about a week ago and love it
jboypacman #5 Posted January 29, 2010 Love the original Gameboy! started to get back into recently and created a nice little selection of games in a very short period of time because most of the games go for cheap. I play all of my games for it on the Super Gameboy.
thegamezmaster #6 Posted January 29, 2010 Love all my gameboy variations and the tons of games. Been playing gameboy since it first came out!
shadow460 #7 Posted January 30, 2010 Color Game Boy usually, sometimes on the brick.
akator #8 Posted January 30, 2010 I've had a strange history with the Gameboy. For many years, I didn't like it much -- I preferred the Lynx and Game Gear. The only people I knew with Gameboys were pre-teens and I was in college, so I was as likely to buy and play a Gameboy as I was a Fisher Price toy. Every time I played it, I distinctly remember having a "been there, done that years ago" reaction. A few years ago I picked up a Gameboy and several games because they were cheap, and I figured why not give it another try. My recent experiences have been much more positive than how I felt when the system was current. These days, I enjoy the simple screen and straightforward gaming much more than I did at the time
fiddlepaddle #9 Posted January 30, 2010 Lots of puzzle games, and Tetris alone justifies having a gameboy. Also lots of choices in hardware as mentioned. GB Color carts don't stack up nicely, though; sort of like Jaguar carts or Mattel 2600 carts. Also, you can't read the title of games in a stack. On the other hand, they're small enough to spread out a bunch in your hands like playing cards so you can figure out which one you want.
Chris Leach #10 Posted January 30, 2010 Gameboy Well, that handheld is a funny handheld....You can amass tons of the old gameboy games and play them over and over and never really beat them and have a great time, but if you get the old school role playing games on there, you got some time on your hands? Those games take hours out of your life and plenty of AA batteries. If everyone picked up an old school gameboy and started playing role playing games on them, AtariAge could go into business shipping batteries. LOL Great Greed! Nuff Said...awesome game great role playing game, had it when I was a kid....someone stole it. All I have today is the manual on how to play it. Knights Quest, another good one. Final Fantasy Adventure..>Classic. Legend of Zelda, another good one....old school gameboy games rule....gameboy color was like portable nes and then you get gameboy advance....maybe too many japanese style games for many, but the role playing games on gameboy are not to be messed with... They will consume you!
CGQuarterly #11 Posted January 30, 2010 I love the Game Boy. I got it the Christmas it came out so there is a heavy nostalgia factor there. I have a pretty good sized collection of games, probably around 60-70 carts, and I always play them on my GBA SP (in proper black & white mode) although the Super Game Boy dealio for the SNES is also a great way to play them. nathanallan #12 Posted January 30, 2010 It's a great game, heck yeah. Definitely worth it to collect for. Like stated above, you can find them cheap with the handhelds out now, along with lots of cheap games all over the place. I have almost all the GB's that came out, still looking for a Pocket version. Also the Game Boy Player for GCN is a great thing to get it on the TV set, as is the Super Game Boy for the SNES. Heck yeah, get it, you'll love it. Austin #13 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Definitely a great handheld.. Of course, great puzzle games.. Lots of great action games, too, although I personally spent most of my time with the popular games/ports--Operation C, Castlevania and Mega Man series.. Mario Land 1 and 2, the Donkey Kong remake, Metroid 2.. Lots of other games, of course, but those are the ones that come to mind right now. Picked up a GBC as well, but I didn't play it much after my initial batch of games.. Ghosts 'n Goblins was a remake of the NES version, but this time the movement was smooth, so all in all it was a great port.. SMB for the GBC was cool, too, as well as the Shadowgate, Prince of Persia, and R-Type (I & II) color remakes. As far as collecting, yeah, I think it's just as worth it to collect as any other platform. There are a lot of great games that are still a lot of fun to play (And thanks to the Super Game Boy or the original GBA TV adaptor, you can still play them on your TV). It's also fun finding the games complete if you're truly collecting--I'm making a blind assumption here, but I think people threw away the boxes more so than on other consoles because it was often purchased to be taken on the road frequently. in the dark #14 Posted January 30, 2010 The Gameboy has a great library of games. I like playing on the Gameboy Pocket mostly. I was even inspired to pick up another one recently in a different color shell. And you can easily find a good selection of games to grab up from local yard sales or ebay. Rybags #15 Posted January 30, 2010 I've got one - no idea if it works properly. Paid about 3 bucks for it, including the magnifier+light. Does anything significant happen if you power these things on without a game inserted? This thing seems to just display a small rectangle, nothing else. figgler #16 Posted January 30, 2010 I've been into GB for a good long time. The original hardware I never liked, with the size, blur and 4 battery thing. Super GB, and the hardware after ward made GB much better for me and brought me what I needed - play on the TV as an option, colour, etc. I have a good set of games that has taken me a long time to build, but like all collecting, diligence pays off. Recently I even went so far as to track down and snag a GameBoy Light since I just think it's cool. You could see my games collection in my sig if you are interested. I'd recommend basically all those games with maybe an exception or two. Recently I've been playing around with a GB Printer and Camera too. Gameboy has enough games, hardware options and accessories that truthfully you could occupy yourself with GameBoy only for years and years

Does anything significant happen if you power these things on without a game inserted? This thing seems to just display a small rectangle, nothing else. Powering on with no game will just give you a boot screen. That rectangle you see should be the word GameBoy and Nintendo, so it looks like something's wrong with your system. Fixing that? Not sure, sorry but a good cleaning might help.
Wickeycolumbus #19 Posted January 30, 2010 I have a decently sized Gameboy collection, mostly the more popular games (Mario, Zelda, etc...). I play with whatever I have handy, which is usually a GBC (I bought my local Game Stop's entire stock of GBCs when they were 75% off ).
Tr3vor #20 Posted January 30, 2010 game boy is one of my favorite game system. (i blame the ds, theyre not made anymore.) i hate the sgb, the sound is higher pitched and annnoying. i also dislike the giant deformity that is the original gameboy i prefer the gamboy color or pocket. Tr3vor #22 Posted January 30, 2010 i blame the ds, theyre not made anymore ...Or the fact that the technology is 20+ years old but still, the gba or gbc would be nice if it was still around. or they could have made a gameboy-style handheld, but i like the ds nevertheless. The "Game Boy" logo won't appear without a cart. These things are built like tanks anyway. As long as the case has never been opened, it'll still be working when the sun goes supernova to consume us all.
BrianC #24 Posted January 30, 2010 I love the original b/w GB! I used to play my games on the old fat Game Boy, but now I mostly play them on GBA SP, or on GBC. I also play a bit on Super Game Boy. I have about 30 or 40 b/w GB games. I also got around to getting a couple of import shmups for it (I love how it's region free), Sagaia and Twinbee Da!! Video #25 Posted January 30, 2010 I love Gameboy, though I useually play on the GBA, or Gameboy Player for cube. It's just convienant. I do love to bust out the brick once in a while, especially on some games like Faceball 2k which has much better music on the brick (more bass) Gameboy, GBC, GBA, yeah, I have about 80 titles for the DMG, 20 or so dual carts, and 20 color only carts, and probably 70 or 80 GBA carts, so I got a lot of play time on there. It's my number one favorite console of all time.... Just really bummed out that Nintendo decided to kill it off (no DS doesn't count, it uses different carts (if you can call them that) and isn't BC without another cart)
