Use mouse as a paddle in MESS

How do you do this? I'm trying to use my "mouse x" as a paddle for Atari 2600 games, set it to what I think is right, but no go. Has to be an easy way to do this in MAME and MESS.

It's kind of hidden in an obscure place:

 

Start a game such as Kaboom!

Press the TAB key

Select Categories

Then set the controller type for each port
