Could be anything given your description-- perhaps some power spike (during/after saving file) caused POKEY damage or ROM.

Maybe it was too old for mods, eh?

Better leave that one unmodded, and buy another one just for modifications.

(at least I would do this way)

if i change ROM or POKEY, it maybe ok?

Given the fact that when using QMEG it gets to and displays the monitor is a good sign. It rules out the major ICs such as the CPU, ANTIC, etc.

I am sorry I cannot help with the diagnosis but the machine is definitely repairable.

I would buy new one and treat the dead one as parts' donor.

No?

I feel your pain: the motherboard of my original 65XE from 1990 is lying in a smoking heap in the cupboard (too much ham-fisted experimentation with mods). I daresay I can revive it one day, and the case is still one of the best I have. Just buy any old yellowed 65XE or 800XE - you only want the motherboard. I paid £3 for a real old rust bucket the other week but a couple of days later the motherboard was upgraded to 320K and sitting in a nice case with a new keyboard plugged in.

Well, to be honest - I haven't got now either my first or my second machine. First one was sold someday when console keys started malfunctioning (it was XEGS - cool one, though), and my second one (65XE) has died probably due to bad PSU bringing to his grave also Code3 Freezer (nice Happy Freezer hack), some QMEG and 128k memory upgrade (probably some COMPY-related - 192k overall). My "next" machines are rather sound (at least for now).

Is this original Atari? I thought you write something like Atari#CO70042. I would like to know how strong your power supply is. Your extended Atari needs more than 1.5A, so I think you need new stronger one. Just buy what Pepax wrote you to the Czech Atari user list and you will be on the safe side.

I have a POKEY that works fine except for serial I/O. It's a partly working POKEY. I have this OMNIMON ROM installed in one XE and it's in ROM and has a monitor; I assumed that QMEG is some similar ROM. OMNIMON seems to have problems loading cassette stuff.
