Tempest #1 Posted February 5, 2010 I'm looking for a functioning Power Macintosh G3 tower. I want the older beige one and not the newer blue & white imac looking one. Tempest
Emehr #2 Posted February 5, 2010 This guy on 68kmla.net (who also has an online store) is liquidating a bunch of stuff, including beige G3s. He was banned at 68kmla so you may want to find him at ppcmla.com and see if he still has the goods. I can't vouch for him personally. I asked him about some Blue & White G3 stuff but never got a response, but that could just be bad timing with the whole banning thing.
Tempest #3 Posted February 6, 2010 Yeah I saw that. So he was banned? Why? That makes me nervous. Tempest

Tempest #6 Posted February 10, 2010 I ended up getting one locally. I wanted something that will play nicely with System 8 and had all the legacy ports. Tempest

Mark Wolfe #8 Posted March 1, 2010 I prefer the last big Power PC Tower that apple put out, the 9600. I have a G3 upgrade card and the ability to run OSX as well as all the older apple systems including 8. I have a special drive I partitioned and loaded various systems on it for the ultimate compatibility, heh, it also runs DOS, WIN95, WIN98 & WIN2k. It is terrific for running old games and multi media programs. oh I also put in a PCI card that has USB and Firewire ports. the thing is loaded to the hilt. nathanallan #9 Posted March 1, 2010 I have a big Beige G3, and yes, it's much fun when you get everything tuned up. Not much time to mess with it lately, you have gotten me interested again

I'm a carrier! Anyone who has been in contact with me in the last 6 months should get themselves checked out. Symptoms include wanting to fiddle with old hardware and a desire to load more games on a system than they could ever possibly play in a lifetime. I'd be interested to see a list of games + software you guys all have. I think it might be neat to dig up some old forgotten goodies, maybe put an impromptu database together. One of my favs is a apple talk head to head game called "Armor Alley"... anyone familiar with this one? works on the old Mac Plus but also in Color with system 7 and 8. You can play against the computer but it is most fun with two macs tied with apple talk.
nathanallan #13 Posted March 1, 2010 Well, I know I have seen a lot of Star Wars games and Tomb Raider games for the OS7 Macs, not sure what else. I know there are ton of them out there. El Paso is not very Apple friendly; things are hard to come by around here.
Evad97 #14 Posted March 1, 2010 Strange to see this topic pop up - I've actually just finished rebuilding my OS 9 home music studio from the late 90s on a Blue & White G3. I actually thought about "going Beige" for the project because that's what I had in the 90s but I decided that I liked the look of the B&W better. For what it's worth, despite OS9's klunkieness (and it is klunky), I've enjoyed pulling out the rack gear again and trying to remember how Digital Performer works. E. E. hehe, I still run DP on an the 9600 with the MOTU 2408 mark II. I also have a digidesign pci audio card that will only work with system 7, 8 or 9. oh and a sample cell card too but I think that might be for a Nubus mac only
Tempest #18 Posted March 1, 2010 I think Armor Alley is a remake of Rescue Raiders. I believe 360 Pacific put it out on several systems. Tempest

Practically all of my Mac games are files on a hard drive. I do have quite a bit of software on floppy, but it's mostly OS, productivity, utility, etc. EDIT: There's a ton of games and stuff on my MacAddict CD's too... Mark Wolfe #20 Posted March 1, 2010 I think Armor Alley is a remake of Rescue Raiders. I believe 360 Pacific put it out on several systems. Tempest I have no idea but the game is a side scrolling army game. you are the general and you deploy tanks, troops, helicopters and even dirigibles based on your budget of what you can afford. they travel left to right down a track, the "alley" and meet with the opponents army and depending on what you deploy, when and in what number, the battle ensues and if you break through the gauntlet, you bring devastation to your opponents HQ. if you get your strategy right, the game can last quite a long time, if not, it is over in minutes. I think you're right, the publisher was 360 pacific. I have a few floppies and they have a user key that you need to type in to use it. you can not use a copy as far as I know.
