Price Check: Atari Video Music, 7800, Sears & 48 Games

Recommended Posts

That seems to be on the high side considering that most of the carts appear to be commons (how does it go now... $20 for one console, and a buck each common).

The again, if you have none of these, not a bad starter setup.

I should clarify - the product is sexy but not the price. I'd say $75 for the console and games but I don't know what the Video Music or game changer are worth.

That Video Music is worth about $40 or so....I'd say lowball it at $150 offer and see what happens?

EDIT: You're thinking lower than I am  around here everything is pretty inflated though!

$40 + the $75 for the consoles and games = $115 and maybe say $10 for the changer to make it an even $125?

$125 would be pretty good round this neck of the woods, yeah. Those Video Musics are actually pretty cool in a weird 70s retro stereo sort of way!

I would say that is a pretty good price.

If that Video Music works they usually go for $125 on a bad day and $175 on a good day.

If anyone has a working Atari Video Music they are willing to sell for $40, please let me know. I will buy as many as you have.

I have a warehouse of 100,000 of them but I demand payment up front and I won't provide pictures or tracking info! Hurry! ;)

Really? I thought they were worth much less -- I thought I saw some on eBay for $50 neighborhood a couple weeks ago.

Obviously, the 7800 games probably don't work in the Telegmes console.

Probably cause it is a 2600 and not a 7800

Kinda pricey though..keep looking I scored a sears arcade II system boxed today for $15...

He said that he found more stuff:

The other telegames joystick

1 - set of paddle controllers still in original box

14 more games:

Othello

Solaris

Donkey Kong

Pole Position 2

Berserk

Canyon Bomber

Oink!

Air Raiders

Telegames:

34 - Interplanetary Ballistic Missiles/Antiballistic Missiles

14 - Chase/Barricade/TV Graffiti

19 - Touch me/Count Me/Picture Me/Find Me/Add me/Play Me

9 - Maze

16 - Maze Mania - a game of cops and robbers

6 - 1-2 Curve Ball/3-4 Steerable Ball/ 5-6 Straight Ball

I offered $140 for the lot. At the least I can meet him and see if the stuff reeks of smoke and dust. If so, I would then make an offer on the cart changer, game center and Video Music by itself.

Even if it smells of smoke, the smell will go away over time.

It is definitely worth $200.

If it all works, you got yourself a bargain.

Sorry, rmaerz, I ended up with this lot. Didn't see this post until the deal was already done.

As it turns out, the prize part of this lot, the Video Music, has some problems. The power cable was clearly hacked at some point in it's history, and with my multimeter currently missing, it's impossible to say if it was done correctly. The original wall wart is long gone, and in it's place, someone wired in a transformer half way between the unit and a generic power plug.

I bravely went ahead and tested it anyway... and it kinda works... you get the various graphics to appear, but there's no sound output (there should be sound output to the TV, right?) Also, only the right input seems to work... nothing plugged into the left input seems to have any effect. So this needs some work. At some point, I'll make sure it's getting the correct AC voltage... if I'm very lucky, perhaps that will fix some of the other issues.

The rest of the lot is pretty much as it was described. The wireless joysticks are interesting, and seem to work fine. Never had a pair of these before. Also nice to have 20 Sears labeled carts... even if none of them are at all rare, it's a neat addition to my collection. The systems and carts are in reasonably good condition, although no switchboxes were included.

So while I'm a bit disappointed about the condition of the Video Music, it's still a nice lot.

Did it reek like cigarettes or no? I am reluctant to buy stuff that does not come from a smoke free facility.

I didn't want to fork out the dough that he was asking. There were only three things I wanted: the Video Music, the cart changer and the game center so walking away or not making a deal with him was no biggee...

I didn't notice any cigarette smell. I once got a Lynx from Ebay that REEKED of smoke, so I know what you're talking about!

I don't think you missed out on much... the Video Music doesn't work well, the cart changer has a lot of RF interference (it's my second one now, so I suspect the problem exists on all these units), and the game center is missing the top. The rest of the lot that you weren't interested in is fine, though. :-)

I'm fairly certain it doesn't put any sound out thru the TV. Its meant to be used with stereo/hi-fi equipment and it only displays video on the screen -- you'd want to hear the sound on the your stereo's speakers. The left input jack is probably broken/loose and needs to be replaced or resoldered, since your getting a display and the right input is working (causing effects on screen) it seems that the electronics inside are working.

Very cool find!
