bloodreptile #1 Posted February 15, 2010 When Bioshock came out early in the 360 it was an amazing title. It was huge and had some mansecrets to find. I loved hacking things with the puzzle mini game. The amazing and evocative soundtrack that just drew you into the undersea paradise that was Rapture. Now its 2010 and Bioschock's sequel is here. First things first. The main game is about a third of the size of the original. Also it seems to be quite a lot easier. It does have multi player but that does not exactly lead the pack. Its generic capture the flag, tema death match and death match fare. Good but hardly ground breaking. For me where the game falls flat on its face is with the new hanking tool. Gone is wonderfully bizarre puzzle game which is replaced by a timing game which requires little thought. Yhe amazing plot from the first one is now an okay plot. For me this game is a try before you buy. I know this will be in the second had shop in a week or so as I am really disappointed by it.
moycon #2 Posted February 15, 2010 Ugh disappointing to see this post. I haven't received my copy yet, I expect it to be here Tuesday.
danwinslow #3 Posted February 15, 2010 I like it a lot. If it's too easy for you, play it on hard. The hacking is easier, thats true, and is kind of lame, but thats really my only complaint.
Mendon #4 Posted February 16, 2010 My son has started the game and likes it. He says the biggest difference for him, between 1 & 2, is that there are enemies up the wazoo in #2 and that you are fighting constantly. Mendon
bloodreptile #5 Posted February 16, 2010 the multi player is good but i think i will trade it in for money off Mass Effect 2.
Apok #6 Posted February 16, 2010 I loved the first one, so I picked up the collectors edition of the second one on launch... School hasn't left me alot of time to play it, so I haven't even touched it yet...
Video #7 Posted February 16, 2010 I liked the atmosphere of the first game, over all, it was WAY overcomplicated, but still fun. The world seemed dead in the first game though, it was amazingly detailed, but you had huge gaps of not doing anything.
moycon #8 Posted February 17, 2010 Got my collectors edition in today and it is sweet. Haven't played the game yet. Still trying to make it through the suicide mission in Mass Effect without losing anyone.
+remowilliams #9 Posted February 17, 2010 I finished Bioshock 2 a few days ago and enjoyed it immensely. As a friend remarked about it, 'it felt like coming home'

Mendon #12 Posted February 17, 2010 I noticed that the soundtrack for Bioshock 2 is available for download from iTunes. I believe most of the music in the game is from the 40's and early 50's (sort of like Fallout 3) so it will be interesting to see how many downloads it gets. moycon #13 Posted February 17, 2010 I believe most of the music in the game is from the 40's and early 50's (sort of like Fallout 3) so it will be interesting to see how many downloads it gets. I love Fallout 3 soundtrack. The difference between the two, Fallout 3, in addition to ambient music, it used actual songs from the time period by the artists who sang them (Butcher Pete, Anything Goes, I Dont Want to Set the World on Fire, etc...) and these were included on the soundtrack. Bioshock is scored by one person and the majority (It may be all of the songs, I only see one song listed on the CD as having vocals and it was unused, but I haven't listened to it through yet) are instrumental. I just gave the Bioshock 2 soundtrack a quick listen to and there wasn't much even inspired by old time music. Unless maybe the songs are in the actual game but not on the soundtrack? Edit : There are songs with lyrics playing on radios is certain places (Like the Gift Shop) they are few and far between, but present! BTW I don't think this game is easy at all!! Just to say that it must have been me that weekend. I was in a go getting mood and everything fell before me. So it is not quite as easy as i made out. bloodreptile #15 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Second play through. Its now time for me to come with cap in hand. Although I was disappointed with the size of the game on the original play through i liked it a lot more on the second play through. The size seems about right. I would have loved to be playing the game for a month like i did with the first one. Second time round I noticed a lot more of the game. I played it on easy this time so that I could look around without getting shot at. A vain hope as it seemed quite hard on easy. After putting a couple of hours into the multiplayer I can quite honestly say i was wrong with this one as well. Its a fun game. Protect the little sister is a real laugh as it is quite a unique variation on the capture the flag game. Play it and find out what I mean. When I first played it I got shot to pieces game in game out. As I have advanced I have got more weapons enabling me to do better. So now I like the game. moycon #16 Posted February 20, 2010 I'm really liking this one. I've been playing for hours. I do tend to do everything you can do, all the research, all the upgrades, all the diaries, etc.. So I suspect this wont seem short to me even if the actual campaign is. At this point I don't find the game any better than the first. It's about on par, and that's fine because I loved the first one. I haven't tried the multi-player yet. That might push this one into the > category. 2600Lives #17 Posted February 24, 2010 Finished off the single player game pretty easily. MUCH harder than the first, though, but not in a bad way, really. I never died once. Like Moycon, when it comes to Bioshock, I do everything I can, and search every container and nook and cranny possible. I LOVED the gathering sequences, setting up my elaborate traps every where. I even got the achievement for not taking any damage or letting the sister get touched (and I've gotten almost all the achievements, too. They're mostly pretty easy to get). VERY fun and enjoyable, with a bittersweet ending. Multiplayer has me really engaged, though, since I actually don't suck balls at it. I'm rank 37, closing in fast on 40. I intend to get the DLC next month, too, as it'll raise the cap to 50, give you 2 more characters, more maps, more trials, and an upgrade for each weapon. Sadly, with the proliferation of the freakin' Nail Gun, I've had to resort to using it in concert with the Grenade Launcher to score any wins, but it's still been a total ride. Got some hard to do trials, and am still working on some (like the become a Big Daddy 30 times, but I'm close on that one). LOVE it. It doesn't take itself too seriously like some MP games, and even with my mediocre skills at FPS games, I can be competitive. I love the idea of hacking the turrets and vending machines, and taking research photos (once I get it, I'll be equipping the tonic that allows your body to become a bomb once someone photographs you). At first I didn't like the multiplayer, but after giving it some time (about 20 hours total, actually, and I doubt it'll take me more than another 8-10 to hit 40), I've really fell in love with it. All in all, a DAMN fine sequel to a damn fine original game.
2600Lives #18 Posted March 15, 2010 So, is anybody playing multi-player at all? I got the DLC on Friday, and have been steadily playing all weekend. I'm now at 49, halfway to 50. The DLC is sort of meh when it comes to some things (aesthetics mainly, and no new maps), but worth it I think. The new trials are somewhat fun, and the new upgrades actually change some of the weapons to be either more or less useful. I actually managed to finish off my crossbow kill trials because of the Piercing Bolt upgrade. Nice. I've also recently switched to using Insect Swarm in concert with the Shotgun using the Sawed-Off Barrel upgrade. Wow, that's a NASTY combo right there. This is seriously the most fun I've ever had with a multi-player shooter game, period. There is really nothing quite like grabbing a Big Daddy suit and just rampaging through the level, killing everybody in sight. There are some things that suck, mainly the freezing issues (due to the Unreal Engine likely), the matchmaking is extremely substandard, and there are lots of hackers playing the game (easy to tell, you can't kill them and they can one-shot you from across the map). Still, all in all, this was worth every penny I paid for it, and the 5 bucks for the DLC bought me a weekend full of non-stop enjoyment. Can't complain there!
