Buying XBox Live games for someone else

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who has a XBox 360 and would like some of the games they have on them, singe player games like Mega Man 9. She doesn't have cable in her house, though, so no way to download them. (She doesn't pay for XBox Live either.)

I'm trying to figure out the best way that I might be able to send her those games. I suspose my question has two parts:

I know that games you buy on XBox Live are linked to your account....is there any way to buy a game as a 'gift' for someone to allow you to send it to that person?

Also, is there a way that the games could be burned onto a CD/DVD that the XBox could read and then install the games? Is there any way it could be done with that media? Or would I have to buy a Memory Card and put the games on it?

You can also get some of the Live games on disk (usually much cheaper too)

Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged

(Geometry Wars, Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, Wik - Fable of Souls, Hardwood Backgammon, Outpost Kaloki X and Texas Hold 'Em)

PopCap Arcade Vol. 1

(Bejeweled 2, Astro Pop, Feeding Frenzy, Zuma)

PopCap Arcade Vol 2

(Peggle, Feeding Frenzy 2, and Heavy Weapon)

Namco Museum Virtual Arcade

(Galaga Legions, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Mr Driller Online, Pac-Man, Galaga, Xevious, New Ralley X,Dig Dug and Ms Pac-Man)

There are actually more games on this disk, but these are the ones from Live.

Qubed

(Lumines Live, E4, Rez HD)

Konami Classics Volume 1

Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Frogger, Super Contra)

Hasbro Family Game Night

(Battleship, Boggle, Connect 4, Sorry Sliders, Sorry, Scrabble, and Yahtzee

^Thanks for the links to purchase those moycon. I plan on buying a few of those this week. Is it possible to d/l these to the 360 and play them without the disc ? I want it the same as if I bought them off live.

I think you'd have to log in to xbox live on your console with her gamertag, then download the games to a memory card.

Won't work

XBLA games are tied to your gamertag and the purchasing console.

If he purchases them on his console with a gamertag created for her, they're going to be tied to his console and her gamertag. So his console will be able to access those XBLA games offline since his system made the purchase and her account would have to be logged into Xbox Live to access those games from her system. And she doesn't have broadband internet.

You're going to have to borrow her console and make the purchases for her if she's going to be able to access those games when not connected to Xbox Live. It's the only way unless you just buy those compilation disc that feature XBLA content.

Nope, the XBLA compilation disc will act like a normal retail release. The disc must be in the drive to access the content.

To add to Moycon's list, there is also a Konami Classics Volume 2 and a XBLA compilation disc in the Sega SuperStars console pack in game from a year ago that is widely available used at GameStop (Includes Pac-Man Championship Edition, Uno, Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rocket, and Feeding Frenzy).

Thanks for the information guys. I knew about the XBox Live Complitation disks, but Mega Man 9 and the new Bionic Commander are not available on them.

And it's not possible to borrow the console either, as she lives across the country.

I was hoping there was some way I could help her out, but it looks like she either has to get the console online or hope the games comes out on a disc. :(

Just an aside.... you don't have to pay for a XboxLive membership to download games, demo's, etc. Silver memberships can obtain Live merchandise also as their point-money is the same color and just as good as those that pay for a gold membership.

I realize that, but again, she does not have cable in her house so no way to get online with the system. No WiFi signals to pick up either -- she lives in the boonies. :)

I don't have any worthwhile ideas on this one since the 360 can't connect to dial up. Otherwise I was going to suggest someone copying the demos for her and then she could put those on her system and then just download the license since those are very small files and the demo is already the entire game but stuck in demo mode.
