Serial numbers

I see some serial numbers ending in a different letter, (IE> e, f, g,) just wondering if there was a difference, i assume the high letter were last made? Reason i ask is, i have a guy trying to sell a 6er with ending in G...Not sure the difference.. Thanks..and sorry if it was posted, im at work and have to use my ipod. So the search function is not working..thanks again

My understanding is that if a serial number ends in E, that is one of the earlier units.
