CX26100 What was it?

Recommended Posts

Ok that is nice to know but how do we know this?

No box art on the website. Was the box art invented at the time the game was released is that why it is not on the page?

Unreleased prototypes do not always have box art. The game can be purchased from Atari2600.com for $44.95 and here's a piture of the box art for you:

Yes.

I guess my only reference is the model number on the released cart:

http://www.atariage.com/cart_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=2076

And lists like these:

On several of the internal Atari lists that I have seen CX26100 is listed as never assigned.

Here is the limited edition release from AA. This scan is from my personal collection. Since I don't have a side shot of the box, the cart shows the CX number. Front and back of the box don't have it.

Ok I'll clarify a couple questions.

Was the art (that was used when the game was released) the original art Atari had planned to use or did the guys putting the release together grab a random image of Bugs for the box?

And

How do we know Bugs Bunny was CX26100. Was that fact invented by those who released the game because that number wasn't taken yet?

I'm guessing they just picked CX26100 because it was free and close to the number range that BB would have probably been (probably more like CX26120+ but close enough). As Mitch said, CX26100 is listed as Do Not Assign or Unassigned on several internal lists. There are a few AtariSoft numbers like that too. It's almost like they didn't want to assign 100 or other 'numbers of significance' for some reason. I don't know why.

In baseball cards they save the hundreds for the big stars. Perhaps they saved it for a big event. ATARI GAME NUMBER 100 !! And the game they had planned was canceled or just never got around to it.

Just not so sure about BB. I would guess BB would have had a different number that was then taken by a game that was released. Of course this is all speculation.

Yes, this is a difficult thing to track down.

Perhaps one of the creators of the re-release can be asked about the serial number?

Did they just pick a number that was available or was this number truly assigned to Bugs Bunny once?

I have the proto for this game, but don't want to go to it. It's buried. It's possible if someone else has a proto, the product number may be written on the chip.

Sorry for digging out this old thread.

Does anyone know why the reproducers decided to go with the red label style? Wasn't Bugs Bunny supposed to be a kids game in the style of Snoopy And The Red Baron?

Yes.

And lists like these:

Wonder why they list Steeple Chase as number 14 and Stellar Track as number 19 but not Submarine Commander as number 47?

And there's another missing:

CX2665 Frog Pond

Shame they don't have a CX number for Atari's 16 in 1 either, but I see a 4 in 1 and a 8 in 1? Interesting.
