You need to add a 10k resistor between pin 7 and pin 9 of the plug to allow the Atari 2600 to detect the second button. Unfortunately, pin 7 is not wired at all in a Master System controller. No, genesis controllers operate completely differently than CX78. Similar hacks can't be made for CX78, because the 2600 lacks the circuitry required to read CX78 buttons independently.
