Donkey Kong Question

What is the highest possible score on the first level of Donkey Kong? The best I can do is 4500, but I think 4600 is possible. Anybody know for sure?

Never mind, kids Aimee tells me you can get better than 6K with the hammer, I have always forsaken it.

I just confirmed it myself.. yes, you will die when the time runs out. I just got 6,200 and that's probably pretty close to as much as you could get.

Did you get 6200 and complete the board or let yourself die?

6,200 and completed the level. Since I don't think I could gain more than one barrel jumped per 100 ticking off the clock, I figured I'd just get up to the hammer as quickly as possible, bust the barrels that I could, and then clear the level.
