Space Invaders cocktail table $180

Recommended Posts

That's odd - shouldn't the monitor have been mounted lengthwise? That's how I've seen all other cocktail tables. Maybe it's worth more because of that design flaw...

Silly rabbit! SI is a vertically oriented game :)

Only since the cheesy anniversary re-advent of the game by Taito, have we seen horizontal SI games. Micro-switches in the buttons, joys - goofy bezels and horizontal monitors - thanks, but no thanks! lol

The original cocktail Taito version of SI had a 13" monitor with a horizontal cabinet whereas the Bally/Midway versions had 19" monitors in skinny/vertical running cabinets similar to Pac-Man.

Exactly and that's what I mean that the monitor should have been mounted the other way like your Ms. Pac cocktail.

I played an SI cocktail in a Pizza Hut. Although it was roughly 30 years ago, I don't recall the monitor and the control panel being mounted as they are in that picture.

The monitor is still sitting horizontally though. Just the cabinet is situated differently. Taito and Midway both had their versions over here in the States, that's why the difference.

The pic shown here is the only time I have ever seen a horizontally laid out monitor for Space Invaders, besides people hacking MAME cabinets together:

Did you mean that the playfield is still oriented vertically? Cuz that's how they are in the links I posted...

Yes. I was just pointing out that the Taito cocktail was not a "design flaw" as you might have thought. That was how all their other cocktails were designed at the time. We had a Lunar Rescue for a while just like it. Personally, I like the smaller screen and horizontal width of the Taito's vs. the Midway cabs. More room for your drinks! And really, 19" is kinda large that close to your face. The Taito cabs may be slightly harder to find than the Midway's - but barely. They're really not *that* rare.

WHoa! You had a Lunar Rescue cocktail? That would rock...do you have any pix of that?

At least you could like have a pizza and some pitchers sitting on that cocktail cab and it wouldn't block your view of the game...

The LR game is loooong gone - but yeah, she was a beauty. I play it now on my 8-in-1 enabled Space Invaders upright. And yeah, we used to eat on our cocktails all_the_time... lol

Speaking of Pizza, I guess some Pizza Huts still have a cocktail lurking in the corner if you're lucky. There was one way up north near Eau Claire in WI a few years back.
