Rev. Rob #1 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) I've been meaning to write something down about this game for a little while now. Anyone who knows me is aware that I am a big Sonic fan. I have all of the Genesis ones, plus Sonic CD, Knuckles Chaotix, SA 1 and 2, and even Sonic Heroes (that's when I quit), and more. In the meantime I've enjoyed 2D adventures on the DS and NGPC. I got an N-Gage from eBay a while back and it came with Sonic N, which, holy shit, is the best fucking Sonic game I've played since 1996. It puts the ones on DS to shame. It's animated well, the level design is good. You can go fast or take time to explore... The best part about it is that is has a very Sonic 3-esque feel to it, where if you choose to play as Tails, Knuckles, or Sonic, you go thorough the same levels but can take different paths. The only thing that sucks about the game is playing as Amy. Hoe my god, is that fucking awful. She uses the hammer from Sonic Adventure, which was a bad idea then and is even worse in 2D. She can't attack enemies in the air or by jumping, and she can't do a spin-dash. Limping through the first level with that pink bitch was absurd. "What were they thinking?!?" This is the best video I could find, and it does not even come close to doing the game proper justice. http://espanol.video.yahoo.com/watch/207367/516666 Edited February 25, 2010 by Rev. Austin #2 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Yes, this was a great game. It has sharp visuals, it feels like the old Sonic titles, and the variety of characters really lends it a lot of replay value. From what I understand, this was a port of the first Sonic on the GBA. Edited February 25, 2010 by Austin
kool kitty89 #3 Posted February 25, 2010 I think there's also an exclusive Neo Geo Pocket Sonic title, plus all the 8-bit releases, if you haven't played those. (SMS and GG, both of which are emulated very well in Kega Fusion -I'd go with the SMS as the viewing window is much larger) As for post heroes games, as I understand it, soem of the GBA exclusives are quite good, stay far away from the port of Sonic 1 though, it's horrible. (as is comix zone and earthworm jim) And you might want to look at some of the newer 3D games, Sonic Unleashed seems to be of very mixed oppinions, but soem find the day levels the closest 3D has ever come to doning the classic 2D games justice (I personally prefer SA1/2, but that's for different reasons) Note that the HD version (360/PS3) is completely different than the SD version (Wii/PS2) with totally different levels and gameplay modifications (note the wii supports the GC controller quite well, I think maybe classic controller too). Similar to Ghostbusters in that sense (different HD and SD releases), if you have a Wii, go with that one as it looks a good bit better than the PS2 one, like gostbusters. (higher framerate, better color, better textures, etc) The beat-em up night stages are what many fans complain about though, but I find them reasonably tolerable, probably moreso if I really liked the day stages. (but that's mostly because of how linear and 2D thay feel at parts, I prefer the Adventure style levels more) Stay away from Secret Rings at all costs though, even moreso than Black Knight. Also, there's plenty of homebrew Sonic titles, like the classic Megamix for Sega CD, then there are some good PC games liek Open Sonic, Sonic Retro and some others I can't think of at the moment. (not all are free though) Open Sonic has a neat tag-team system as well, better than the tether of Chaotix IMO.
STICH666 #4 Posted February 25, 2010 That looks like a direct port of the first Sonic Advanced game except with framerate issues.
BrianC #5 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Sonic N is a port of Sonic Advance with less screen space. I found Sonic Advance to be decent, but lacking compared to the earlier Sonic games. It's missing the little bells and whistles from the Genesis games and the multiple characters novelty wears off since there aren't many alternate paths. Video #7 Posted February 25, 2010 would you believe I actually beat the game with Amy? (and never played her again ) of course, it was on the GBA, but it's the same game from what I know.
