Double Density Floppy and my 1040 station

Recommended Posts

My nephew is hooking me up with programs for my Atari 1040st

I hope to get homebrew music programs and cool games

I did not grow up with one of these but now I have this ill spot for it in my studio

and want suggestions of what to fill floppies with to

Also my big question

Do I really need double density floppy discs?

and if so where do I get a box these days?

Nice setup!

As I'm sure others will tell you, it really *is* best to stick with DS/DD disks for use on these classic systems. While HD might work for a while, seems many disks fail before too long. I once thought HD disks formatted as DD were fine, but learned (painfully) that's not really the case. DS/DD disks can be had on eBay. Sometimes people will unload their old disks that usually have cracked games on 'em. OR they'll claim they are "backups". If you're looking for a bulk buy of DS/DD disks, I'd look for those kinds of deals....
