DaytonaUSA #1 Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks to whoever posted in the marketplace that amazon had fresh stock of new Dreamcasts for sale. I just got mine yesterday and it's so cool. I have my Japanese and American Dreamcasts already but I bought them used. I didn't get into the Dreamcast scene until it was a year past dead. Well finally I know what it's like to have a new one in my hands. I'll have pictures later, but it's odd how used to newer console boxes I am that are sealed. Technically there is no tape so the box could be opened theoretically without anyone really knowing, though I'm keeping it closed to preserve it. . Maybe I'm just used to DS and PSP boxes where there is tape everywhere sealing it up. After thinking about it though, other consoles around the same time like the gamecube I know weren't sealed. I can't remember for the life of me if the same is true on the current gen consoles....hmm. The box is in great condition and lookin at the back of the box made me chuckle at the "next gen" NFL 2k ad, ect. The included Internet browser cd is now also laughable. 1999 doesn't even seem that far back and the system feels so dated. Kinda sad really lol. I'll be keeping it sealed until my current one breaks or if the thing spikes in value. I got it for about 88 bucks with free shipping which I thought was a great deal. Did anyone else pick one up? Pics tonight...
+save2600 #2 Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) All this verbiage and you didn't even crack it open yet? lol How do you know there's not a brick hiding inside instead of a shiny new console? Seriously, even though there's no tape on her, can you kinda tell by looking at the box, if it's been pried open or not? You should be able to tell by the interlocking tongue... see if the cardboard looks a little too perforated or bulky... Also, why are people poking fun at the internet capability of these machines? They worked extremely well back then, probably still do for a lot of sites and especially if you had the keyboard. If anything, the internet is a joke today - not yesterday. Between all the ads, flash crap, mainstream monkeys polluting the web and horribly inefficient web sites - high-speed connections and super fast computers are just about the only way to tolerate the web anymore. But you can keep all the ADD ridden ad banners and other flashy garbage littering peoples sites Edited March 12, 2010 by save2600
DaytonaUSA #3 Posted March 12, 2010 Haha, you can tell the console is in there. It's definitely not been opened as the tongue is unbent. There's a window to see the console's serial number so I know it's in there . Maybe I'll be really careful an take a peak at it tonight. We'll see. Regarding the net, I wasn't making fun of the dreamcast. It's Internet capabilities WERE great for the day. I'm just saying it's kind of embarrassing now. Imagining online play running well on dial up is pretty humorous . My used dreamcast I have has been on the net back when I had dial up. It was a fairly impressive undertaking for a gaming console then. I'd like a broadband adaptor I I could ever find one for a decent price, but it's probably not worth it. You can't play online anymore, to my knowledge, so there's no point. Phantasy Star online was a blast though. I miss being online in that game
+save2600 #4 Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) The direct connect features were great. Where you dialed a buddies phone number and his Dreamcast or Saturn would answer. Up to 8 people in Bomberman I think. Have you ever tried that? I did not experience lag with online gaming until I played AvP on a PeeCee Then again, all the friends I was playing with were within a town or two of me. lol Edited March 12, 2010 by save2600

DaytonaUSA #6 Posted March 13, 2010 Here's the Dreamcast As far as the GC goes, I already have the best GC in the world (Spice GC with matching GBA player) so I'm good to go on that .
Austin #7 Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) The online function wouldn't be so laughable if the system stuck around longer and broadband adapters became common.. Fortunately though, for the majority of the online portion's life, nearly everyone was on dial-up, so it really wasn't that bad (you didn't have the high-pingers versus low-pingers like you did more-frequently in PC gaming). With a tiny bit of work, you can still play online, btw. To my understanding there are private servers still available for PSO as well as Quake III Arena, possibly even others. I have broadband though, so I'd need to find an adapter before I did this. That, and I'd have to see if it's even worth it. I'm not the best when it comes to techy work-arounds like this with consoles going onto private servers.

There might be something else involved, but I don't remember the exact details.. It wasn't difficult though the last time I tried it. moycon #13 Posted March 13, 2010 (Spice GC with matching GBA player) I came close to snagging the one that's on eBay right now. The shipping from Japan killed the deal. The search continues!! Also I'd snag a DC if I already didn't have a mint in box one and two or three other non boxed DC's! (DC is in my top 5 best systems of all time) Still, I love opening new game systems. Opening a brand new DC would be pretty sweet. (No-one but you has to know you opened it!!)

If this is the one you're referring to, that's actually a fairly nice price for a boxed one in such good condition. Mine was mint as well, but no box... but came with two controllers, a GC import game, 2 GBC games and a matching GBA adaptor. My price was cheaper than that one, but I got damned lucky too : eBay Auction -- Item Number: 270541877595 Yea, this is my third Dreamcast. That means it's only tied with the Saturn on number of systems of the same system haha. Figures as much as both of Sega's offerings are my also in my top 5 . I have my first Dreamcast which I got used at Dreamcast along with a large offering of games that they were all clearanced out when the Dreamcast "died". If I remember correctly, I got the system/controller/cords, Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, Slave Zero (ew..), Crazy Taxi and Marvel VS Capcom 2 for about 30 bucks. The system had some scratches on the shell which is why I modded it eventually. My other Dreamcast is a Japanese system in VERY good condition. I have the Karaoke system (complete boxed) underneath it which gives it a very cool look. I use it to play imports like Rez, Darkstalkers, Fighting Vipers 2 ect, or when I'm trying to figure out just how to hell to play Segagaga. Now I have this US Dreamcast. I've always wanted a US one in perfect condition and here it is .(I'm a stickler for condition). I figure my modded/beat up Dreamcast will be my work horse. When/if it dies (it's been running very loud recently.. louder than normal and not reading all disks the first try) I'll open up the new Dreamcast and don it as my new system for use. Haha, yea I know I could open it and no one would know. Honestly, I don't see myself ever selling it as it's just too cool to say I have a new one . Maybe I'm just afraid some of the magic will wear off if I have it open like the others. For now I think I'll keep it all sealed for a future unboxing . It took awhile. I think this auction is for one of the newer Spice Orange GameCubes without the Digital A/V port, but it is hard to tell since the pictures don't have a direct photo of the back. However, the box is one of the newer boxes that had the "IBM Technology" logo more prominently displayed.

I have that on mine and it makes a world of difference. Btw, besides the VGA adapter, is there any higher resolution cable for a dreamcast? It's erm... a bit blurry for me on my large LCD.
