oky2000 #1 Posted March 12, 2010 I have an original style ST with no built in drive I may be willing to sell, it's in good condition and works great with all the original pack in goodies inc cardboard and polly inners and manual etc. Are these things worth a decent amount yet? (PS I am based in the EU not AU or US/CANADA etc)
tjlazer #2 Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Nope they are not. They are worth about $20 USD over here. Do the math. LOL Edited March 13, 2010 by tjlazer
+wood_jl #3 Posted March 13, 2010 First off, I could only use a Yankee version, so I couldn't use it.... But I like these original models. Actually, the 520STm for the composite output. Saves deskspace, reminds me of the form of the A8s, joystick/mouse ports easily accessible. And big nostalgia as the 1st model. The only thing that sucks is 512K. Big external power supply doesn't bother me....I have an assload of them under the floor anyway. For use with external drive or floppy emulator (assuming a proper cable could be obtained) I would like this. However, I don't think they're valuable, but likeable. Mint-in-box Yankee version would be cool.
monzamess #4 Posted March 13, 2010 Where are all the cheap computers? I can't find squat on eBay. Currently there's a dirty-looking 520ST for $50.00 opening bid, no 1040, a high-priced 130XE, etc. Heck, they don't even show up here that often. Is there a better classified or auction site?

Well you gotta keep looking. Check Craigslist too. I see them alot. But not at any single given time like a Commodore 64, etc. They are getting more and more rare so maybe the price will go up? I personally have like 6 520ST's. But I rather keep them, than sell them for $20 each. Not worth my time. LOL Edited March 14, 2010 by tjlazer

LOL Well craigslist is for yanks and yanks only (and most of those collect so they don't get screwed), I doubt any EU or AU collector will touch craigslist given any guy can sell stuff on their with min fallback if it's a complete pile of crap and the distances involved. With ebay you have feedback and for new members on ebay paypal keeps the money in escrow for the buyer until positive feedback/3 weeks have passed etc so the true value is what they go for on ebay and quite accurately unless you want some mouldy yellowed STFM you're going to be SooL for anything remotely collectible. Fair enough if it's worth sod all complete to anyone here....I'll just take a screwdriver to it and sell it for parts, a mouse alone un-yellowed goes for £10+ in the UK

There's gotta be someone in UK/Germany/EU that would be willing to pay. eBay?
nathanallan #8 Posted March 15, 2010 There is plenty of interest in those, try atari-forum.com, I'm a longtime member there and they love the ST machines. I believe they are UK based, so shipping I think would be cheaper (not over the water). I have a 520ST with no floppy drive, and it's my favorite one to use when I use an ST. If you can stand not to take it to parts that would be great, especially if it's in the box! I had to look all over to get my box, and I still don't have any of the inserts. tjlazer #9 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Well you are pretty much in this position: Sell it because you do not want it anymore and want to see it put to good use by another enthusiast. Not because you want to make a nice hunk of cash. Unfortunately a 520ST is not worth a lot! A Falcon030? Very much and will bring a very nice wad of cash! That's why I am hoarding all my 520ST's I got for free/cheap. Until I am ready to part, they stay in my garage. Not trying to sell them for $5... Not even worth my time... The simple reality is I have chosen to live in another country in the near future and with 1000s of games and 100s of machines it is all going to go. I don't have to sell some things like this, can always give it to a friend or family member for free rather than the hassle of ebay for example

oky2000 #13 Posted March 19, 2010 Check some of the other Atari websites that may be more EU-specific. There's gotta be someone in UK/Germany/EU that would be willing to pay. eBay? Nah, lots of stuff on UK/DE ebay. So not much use placing it there. Today is a typical day on ebay, and I find many overpriced yellowing STFMs (200-100 quid) a few more STFM/STE machines for around 50 quid on a worldwide search and a couple of untested yellowed hunks of crap for 10 quid or less (one with a picture of an STM despite telling a buyer it is a 520STFM hmmm. The trouble is whilst many people would chomp at the bit for the classic looking ST/STM machines nobody wants to pay (and this goes for most makes of retro machine) however given worldwide I only found about 8 or so machines, no Megas and no ST/STMs you can work out which ones are rarer. If an ST with a serial number in 6 figures is worthless then so be it, if having it complete and fully as sold with manuals and packaging also makes no difference then again so be it. I have better things to do with my time than to give all my sale fee of a few quid to cover ebay and paypal's lousy rotten ass and then man handle big boxes to a post office to send them off. Ditto for both my Mega ST machines I have. I find STFMs about the only option for people who want to get into the ST and fair enough to them, and obviously if people want 4mb machines an STE is the way to go for a budget etc even if it is a bit fugly with that massive block on the back to house the internal FD.
