Dittohead Servbot #24 #1 Posted March 16, 2010 I recently just bought a six-way S-video selector off Ebay. It's a PolyTron brand model 200-90. I needed a six way selector as I already have a SNES, N64, GameCube, and PS2 hooked up with S-video with a S-video modded Genesis on the way. It mostly works fine but whenever certain explosion graphics occur (like if the screen turns white and does explosions; such as in MegaMan X games) the screen blacks out for a few seconds. But that only occurs when using the selector; if the console is hooked up directly to the TV it does not do that blacking out and it works just fine. The selector otherwise (as far as I know) works just fine. I'd rather not return the selector without first seeing if there's anyway (like if there's something on my 32" Sharp Aquos HDTV in the settings I can use; also if I can fix the lagging I get from the NES/SNES that'd help too) I can correct the problem mentioned above first. What are the best (preferably six way) video selectors out there if this one here doesn't work out?
Video #2 Posted March 17, 2010 My first question was going to be if the console did it "standalone" but you already said you tried that. Just because some TV's will act screwy if they end up with an extreme signal change at a high rate... Most of those switch boxes I've ever used are pretty primitive internally. Many of the cheap ones are literally just switches selecting which set of line in's get to talk to the line out. Some of them will have boosters or some other such inside of them, and if that's the case I could see that screwing with something. You should try a different brand though, if you do return the switch, as if it's some internal component that is causing the problem, the same branded switch will likely still have that problem. I know nothing about Polytron bran d, but my Pelican has never offered me any problems so far.

Oh, one thing, I have had this problem before, if you are going from one plug to the same plug, no conversion, then you don't need the AC adaptor (don't know if yours come with one or not) that's just for the signal boost and translating (if needed) Try using it without the power supply and see if that helps, or if you don't have one, try using one (if your box has a PSU socket) Edited March 17, 2010 by Video
Dittohead Servbot #24 #4 Posted March 17, 2010 I've tried every trick in the book (even putting the damn thing upside down!!) and nothing worked. I now have no choice but to send it back, and unfortunately, the seller's ad on Ebay says he will keep my original S&H. So out of the $30 I paid for this stupid thing, I'll end up with a little over $10 left. I did originally have a Pelican selector and it's the only one that's worked flawlessly (though I never tried it on our current TV as it (the video selector) crapped out after about 3-4 years). Why is it so hard to find a good video selector??? It doesn't help either that most only do 4 and I need one that'll do at least five (or I'll have to get a component video selector and hook up my PS2/Wii with it). SRGilbert #5 Posted March 18, 2010 I've used two of these for the past couple of years and they work great. Hard part is finding them cheap. RCA VH920 Video Source Selector Here's one on Ebay for only $29.99, but it's in Canada and they want $20 to ship it. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 310129531966
Albert #6 Posted March 18, 2010 I've used two of these for the past couple of years and they work great. Hard part is finding them cheap. I have one of those I bought years ago, it works well. Unfortunately, it's buried in my garage somewhere in a box and I need to hunt it down, as I have use for it again. I need to go on a hunting expedition soon. ..Al
Video #7 Posted March 18, 2010 EECH...sorry about the double post, my computer just went all screwy right about the time I tried to edit it and I guess it sent the whole thing again I've tried every trick in the book (even putting the damn thing upside down!!) and nothing worked. I now have no choice but to send it back, and unfortunately, the seller's ad on Ebay says he will keep my original S&H. So out of the $30 I paid for this stupid thing, I'll end up with a little over $10 left. $20 for shipping? Those bastards. (that's a lot, even if you go with something stupid like Priority Flat rate or some such) Why is it so hard to find a good video selector??? I don't know, the four selector's are the common ones though....I thiknk I saw a Pelican with a five switch at one time, but it was an older one and only had AV on it. Really, there's not much to a selector, I don't know why they are so hard to come by, and most want obscene prices for them too...If it wasn't for the Pelican's costing $20, I probably never would have gotten one myself (I used to just have a bunch of RCA jacks soldered together to hook a bunch of AV stuff up, after all, if it's not on, it shouldn't cause problems...at least technically I still have that Jimmyrigged piece of shit too )
