Raiders of The Lost Ark doesn't work?

I just got this game in the mail, and while you're on the platform and it touches the ground, my guy just sits there. The fire button does nothing, moving the joystick does nothing, and resetting it just starts him coming down the platform again. Is this cart broken or is there some secret to this game?

It requires 2 joysticks. Joystick 2 is to move.

I've always found this to be of great assistance

Tac-scan and Wizard of Wor also use the second joystick port for player one.
