knb023 #1 Posted March 19, 2010 I just purchased a heavy sixer off ebay. Great condition. I emailed the guy and asked where it was manufactored to check the label, he said there was none on the bottom. Must of been taken off, is there another way to see where it was manufactroed or serial number? thanks
zylon #2 Posted March 19, 2010 Far as I know, all heavy 6ers were made in Sunnyvale, CA. There may be a piece of paper taped to the motherboard with an assembly date. Also may be a sticker with a date code on the RF modulator on the switchboard.

The commonly-held belief that all heavy sixers were made in Sunnyvale, CA (and that no other VCS models were made there) is wrong. There were some heavy sixers made in Taiwan, and there were some light sixers and 4-switch woodies made in Sunnyvale. I'm not sure about vaders and juniors, but I would not be surprised if there are such things as Sunnyvale vaders and juniors. Edited March 21, 2010 by A.J. Pioneer4x4 #5 Posted March 21, 2010 I just went to an indoor flea market, and there were 2 vendors with video games, BOTH had a heavy sixer. One hooked up running space invaders for $25 with 3 games I flipped it over and it was Hong Kong, not Taiwan! The other was a Sunnyvale for $15, I offered $10 and got it, whoo hoo. I have no idea if it works or not, it is in nice shape except for one thing, it has the "Please steal my identity" feature of the 1980s. It has someones social security number engraved on the top! Not real obvious, and I could probably remove it and make it better.

I'm sure it will be there next week. edit.. I did a little research, and I wonder if it was a light sixer. I thought it had the same curve to the front as the 2 heavies I have. I guess I need better understanding on the differences. I thought the light six was the same basic case as the 4s. I guess not.
Pioneer4x4 #9 Posted March 22, 2010 The label was similar to this.
zylon #10 Posted March 23, 2010 So far, the only 4sw models I've seen made in sunnyvale were woody and also had Promotional Use Only stamped into bottom.
shadowdoggie #11 Posted April 16, 2010 (edited) So far, the only 4sw models I've seen made in sunnyvale were woody and also had Promotional Use Only stamped into bottom. I just received a 4 switch Sunnyvale (woody), and it didn't have the Promotional Use Only stamped into the bottom. It's serial #1158494. Are 4 switch Sunnyvale units really all that rare? It seems like lately I've heard people referencing these on eBay as if they are very rare models. Also, I noticed that in the back of the unit there is heavy black tape or flimsy black plastic covering the holes where the joystick ports and power cord would have exited the unit if it were a 6 switch model. One more thing I noticed was the Sunnyvale 4 Switch System doesn't have the serial # on the outside of the box, nor on the cardboard inside the box, as my 4 Switch from Taiwan does. Someone else found one of these (non-promotional use only): 4 Switch Sunnyvale from another thread In that thread, BigO says "I have a 4 switch made in Sunnyvale. It's not stamped with the "for promotional use only" or whatever that marking is. It does have a "032" (photoshopped the brightness up for visibility) stamped into the base, but nothing else noteworthy that I can find. It has a decent RF video output, if I remember right." When I looked at my unit again, I noticed a "072" stamped into the base. Pic Attached. Edited April 16, 2010 by shadowdoggie
Benzman66 #12 Posted April 17, 2010 I have gotten in many of the Sunnyvale 4 switchers over the years, some were stamped promotional, and some were not. Some had the standard base, and some had the 6 switch base with the plastic covering over the holes in the back. I have noticed however that a majority of the Sunnyvale 4s have the yellow trim as opposed to the orange around the switchplate. I think many consider them rare because they know Sunnyvale units were the first ones made and are the oldest.
